Kaito and Kyoko had planned. They'd plotted. They'd formed a pact! They'd perfected recipes and toiled away preparing feasts and gifts in secret, and now the promised hour of the promised day had arrived.

It was time to put this kidnapping into motion.

Even as she put the last carrot flowers into place, Kyoko was on high alert for the sounds of a certain birthday boy approaching--like those footsteps falling softly out in the hall. Glancing urgently over at her partner in crime, she hissed, "Kaito! The target! Intercept!!"

Wait what. "Huh???"

Wait? "N... no? Of course you know? I mean--" He made motions towards the hallway, followed immediately by more sweeping motions next to him to indicate height. "Shinji's getting changed but he's taller."

...??? On the one hand, it is reassuring that Kaito didn't actually think Kyoko hadn't known he was dating Shinji until he told her just now--that sure would have been silly, goodness--but on the other, uh what? She was pretty sure he'd just strung together a nonsense sentence? Was she supposed to derive something meaningful from that? What could it be?

Finally pausing in her flurry of bento packing, Kyoko turned and looked over her shoulder at Kaito. "... You... measured him just now?"

That is really, really not what she thought they were gonna get up to.

It really wasn't what he thought they were gonna get up to either, but here they were.

Kai made another empathetic waggle of his hand now that she was actually looking at him. "He's like our height." Which was clearly different! From how it normally was!

Kyoko blinked a few times, and stared at Kaito and his hand. "Our... height?" She lifted her own hand to mimic him, just to be sure. "We're talking about Shinji?"

He nodded deeply. "Shinji." Kai leaned back a bit to check the hall, and then he quickly popped over to help with the packing. "We dunno if its... y'know, a problem? Or just something that decided to happen."

"Did... he get older?" Wait, of course he did, but-- "I mean, older than he's supposed to be? Like that time some of us turned into kids, but the opposite??" Oh jeez, was that mess happening again?

"I don't think it's quite the same thing, he was asking how tall he was yesterday so." No memory shenanigans like kid versions brought. "It just seems like he grew a few inches overnight." Which was puzzling, of course, but not as worrying as other things.

"Like some kind of... super speed growth spurt?" Finally hoisting up that stack of bentos, Kyoko frowns. "I haven't noticed anyone else growing a bunch recently.... Maybe I wouldn't notice if it's someone I'm not close to, though."

"Something like that. Think I remember someone gettin' younger by a bit, not... bigger." He held his hands out, please deposit those bounties into them.

"I wanted to give you a heads up though, since we'll probably need distraction round two.

Huh. Well, this sure was a situation? It hadn't occurred to Kyoko to worry about certain things yet, and they couldn't even be sure this would last, so... just a weird time for Shinji, in the end. But surely nothing that required her interference for distractions?

"Sure, but... aren't you gonna go have another romantic tryst with him?" She was keeping these bentos right here in her arms, thank you sir, and heading for the doorway. "To keep him busy?"

"Uh." Kai blinked, turning just the tiniest bit pink at getting called out so blatantly. He followed her to the hall, because what else was he gonna do. "Is there that much we still need to do?"

Most of the non-edibles had already been packed, he was pretty sure, and it seemed like the food was done? Was there enough time for a whole tryst? He was only vaguely aware of what a tryst even was??

Unfortunately(?), there's no time for any kind of tryst, whole or otherwise, as Shinji stayed true to his word of making short work of picking out something from Kai's wardrobe. Here he comes, down the hall! Feeling fairly self-conscious about this whole dilemma but, presently, largely curious over what all this hubbub is about!

"Do you need help with something...?"

Hello, Kyoko! Hope that warning Kai delivered went well. What are we up to here?

Kaito was the one who'd said they were gonna need a second distraction! Just a small tryst was all she was suggesting. A quick one. She could wait while they finished up, too, it wasn't like this picnic was on a tight schedule.

But Kai's chance for birthday boy romance was gone now; here was Shinji to catch them red-handed. Freezing in place as she took in the sight of him, Kyoko even forgot how conspicuous she must look, standing there with her great big bento stack.

Shoving that armload at Kaito without a thought, Kyoko advanced on Shinji, eyes wide. "--For real?!" Time to circle him, investigate every angle. "You can't even wear your own clothes??!"

Kai took the stack easily, even though his eyes lingered on Shinji for a moment. It really was too bad about that second distraction now-- if only he'd known just how potent the sight of Shinji in his clothes was going to be. Ah. Well. Birthday boy romance chances were sure to come later.

Since that was the case, Kai just sent Shinji a wink and left him to his second very effective distraction. Bye then, he was off with his mystery stack.

Oh jeez! With that bit of cargo shuffling and Kyoko suddenly giving him a very thorough look-over, Shinji is effectively Distracted enough to not worry about the specifics of what they might have been up to. Kaito is left to keep his secrets after that wink, and Shinji can't help but straighten up as Kyoko goes about her inspection. He's still not very used to how much space he's taking up now! Better to stay nice and still for her sake!

"Th-they're a little tight now," gosh, though, he thought Kai would have given her a warning that would have prevented this over-the-top reaction! "It's strange, isn't it?"

Alas, Kai's warning did not include the words "please do not freak out and inspect Shinji from head to toe," so that's what's happening. There were frantic glances at his head, his shoulders, his hands, his waist, and then down to his knees. Just bear with it for a minute, Shinji.

"I didn't think about this at all," Kyoko fretted as she swung back far enough to fully size him up from head-to-toe all at once. "It's just a few inches, but the difference is actually kinda dramatic...! This is actually kind of a pinch!"

Well, he won't hold it against Kai for not guarding against this specific outcome. He doesn't mind it too much, but he does feel a bit bad seeing her fret like that!

"No kidding, especially if it is a permanent thing." He's probably going to have to go get new clothes for himself and everything! Just a real drag, huh? "I don't... know what would have caused it, either."

Very. Mysterious.

"Permanent... do you think it might be?" Her hands went up to her cheeks, eyes round. "Not that growing is a bad thing, but this is a little much for a simple growth spurt.... It's only since today that you've been like this, though, right? And Kaito sweeping you off your feet just now didn't do anything?"

Aha! Yes, that's exactly what he assumed right before he was scooped up! They are on the same wavelength! "If something would have helped, it would have been that, right?" He understands exactly what she means by it! But, alas, there had been no change.

"It could still just be temporary, but if it is, that wasn't enough to reverse it."

"It's a big change," Kyoko muses, "so maybe that just wasn't enough. Maybe it needs to be something more extreme--" She cut herself off. "Something that takes a long time, I mean! Like a whole day's worth of skinship, that kind of thing!"

"A whole day..." he echoes the thought, though can't help but think that it would be a bit much. As far as he can remember, no Havenwell nonsense has taken a whole! day! of cuddling to mend, but the idea that it might just take more than a simple moment of sweeping him off his feet isn't far fetched. He glances back in the direction Kai had slipped off to before turning back to Kyoko. "Well... It's not so important that it can't wait until the two of you aren't busy."

He's not going to interrupt whatever business they're up to just for this! He won't steal Kai away from her just yet.

"Huh?" But Kaito was already his, there could be no stealing away from the likes of her.

"No way... if you're having trouble, it's definitely important! And besides, we're not really all that busy! We're pretty much done already." It was fine to drop cryptic lines like that, at this point, Kyoko supposed. "Working in a full day of skinship for you shouldn't be hard, don't worry about it."

Be as cryptic as you want - at this point, with the particular bit of nonsense on Shinji's plate, he hasn't actually thought too hard about what day it is and what Kaito and Kyoko might be up to because of it. As far as he's assumed, the two of them are doing something related to Kai's delivery service. Nothing strange or suspicious at all.

"It really is just more weird than anything," is his soft protest. It's not a dire situation that calls for immediate action! But it would also be kind of silly to push back on it too hard if it isn't actually going to cause an issue for either of them. "Just as long as I'm not interrupting something important... do you need a hand getting anything finished up?"

Let him help if he can! In exchange for leeching up Kai's time!

Kyoko opened her mouth to protest, but then paused, mouth hanging open as she thought. Actually, there was something very important that Shinji needed to do for them, for this all to go off without a hitch. Something she and Kaito couldn't--or really, shouldn't--do for him.

"Put on your shoes, please," she said after a moment. "It would be a real big help. I'll go check with Kaito about the rest."

Oh? An outside task, perhaps? That's easy enough!

"Of course." Just so long as those shoes fit... decently enough. Just get him through today, at least, shoes! That's all he'll ask of you! "I'll meet you two outside, then?"
