♥ July 2019 Intro Mingle

Welcome sign
July Intro Log

Welcome to Havenwell! The walled city and its robotic inhabitants welcome all of the offworlders to Aellyn. New arrivals are given their tablets and showed to open housing, given tours around the city, and generally helped with settling into their new world. Some robots are more curious than others, more helpful than others, but overall the atmosphere of the city is one of hope and celebration. It is, however, a city that needs some help, and as newcomers wander, they may find that they can do a lot to aid Havenwell in its recovery.

PROMPT I: Temple Jobs
The priests of each temple have a digital bulletin board in front of their temple doors that lists several tasks that each temple is asking of natives and newcomers alike. Havenwell is protected from the worst of the damage outside the walls, but it's still an ancient city and there's always something that needs to be done. Of course, the priests won't ask you to do these things for free, so anyone who wants to join up and complete a task will receive a reward of Dora sent to their bank accounts.

The sudden weather changes sometimes results in localized floods, so businesses and homes are always looking for help cleaning debris and mopping floors. The temples themselves always need a little extra help picking up after the temple animals or cleaning the altars. Some stores need help transporting goods across the city - normally a two person job, pulling carts and wagons. And lately, temples have been asking for help in cleaning up the city square for a "big *wink wink* project" coming soon. The priests won't say more than that, but they will offer payment for anyone willing to keep the square clean. Which may be a little difficult with the influx of new people, maps, and general trash and broken debris everywhere. It may be smart to team up to keep things clean!

PROMPT II: Repli-fails
One thing that new residents might find that needs some help are the food replicators found in each home. They've been unused for so long that issues and trouble were inevitable. People who can fix them are few and far between, however, so until an antiques' maintenance-minded robotic denizen stops by, characters may have to suffer through some glitches. When characters ask for potatoes, they might find blue-flavored toothpaste getting dispensed instead. Or if they ask for 1 carrot, they get 20 hot pink ones instead. Or asking for a drink becomes a never-ending stream of said drink. Or they might not dispense anything that looks like food at all and instead inundate you with vaguely fish-shaped wooden blocks. Good luck, newbies. Even the natives are a little baffled by this one.

Rainbow colored chickens

PROMPT III: Virtual? Reality?
The VR simulation of the month, Petting Zoo, seems to still be pretty popular. Natives are plugging in to pet animals in record numbers and it's encouraged the proprietors of the VR parlors to keep the game a little longer than normal. New arrivals are encouraged to take the VR headsets for a spin to help proprietors gauge how to better adjust them for non-robotic clientele. That said, they'll still ask characters to pay for the experience, just not at a slightly discounted rate if they answer a survey afterwards. Characters will notice that holding hands with someone else during their VR experience significantly improves the quality of the visuals and audio input.

Unfortunately, as with most things in Havenwell, the VR experience doesn't always go as planned. On occasion in the city, glitches happen while residents are plugged in and suddenly that flock of giant pink sheep they were petting? Yeah, they're now manifested in the real world. In and around the entertainment districts, illogically colored sheep, giant house cats, miniature ponies, and - of course - the dreaded aggro rainbow chickens suddenly start appearing in packs. Their images glitch in and out, fuzzing into static in places, but they're very real and very confused about not being in their happy green pastures. Which means they panic, of course, and start running amok. Help the citizens corral these strange beasts until the glitch ends, run away from the now very real flocks of rainbow chickens that want to dogpile you, or simply stand by and watch the chaos occur. It's up to you how you want to help!

PROMPT IV: The Ribbon Games
A couple weeks after everyone has arrived and had time to mostly settle into the weird weather patterns and machinery muck-ups, a notice is plastered across the network:
The citizens of Havenwell wish you well, offworlders! To show our appreciation for your assistance in saving our world, we cordially invite you to participate in an ancient tradition: The Ribbon Games! In the old days, this festival was held as a celebration of joyous events. You have a week to collect as many ribbons as you can from your temple by completing their Ribbon Task. Then, at the end of the week, we are hosting a party in your honor where you can compete to collect ribbons from the other temples to win fabulous prizes! Please visit your deity's temple to find out more and we hope you will join us for the Ribbon Games Party at the end of the week.

With all our gratitude,
The Citizens of Havenwell
Those who choose to participate and head to their deity's temple will find a priest with a sash and a box of ribbons in the colors of your chosen deity. They point to a digital board at their side that lists the task you'll need to complete in order to earn one of these ribbons, and will allow characters to complete a ribbon challenge once a day until the week is over for a total of 7 ribbons if they come each day. You may only earn the ribbon of your assigned deity, so if you are an adherent of Rawna and go to Ainea's temple, even if you complete Ainea's task, you cannot receive her ribbon. The tasks are:
  • Rawna: Give comfort to someone or ease someone's pain within Rawna's temple to receive a shimmering silver ribbon.
  • Ainea: Do an act of kindness or show compassion to someone within Ainea's temple to receive a soft pink and purple ribbon.
  • Diacht: Reveal an honest truth about yourself within Diacht's temple to receive a bold red and white ribbon.
  • Ohma: Learn something new about or from someone within Ohma's temple to receive a delicate blue and gold ribbon.

Once a task is completed, the priest will remove a ribbon from their box and affix it to your clothing. Don't let anyone steal your ribbons! Good luck keeping them safe, offworlders.

Outdoor party space with hanging lights and flowers

PROMPT V: The Fanciest of Welcome Parties
At the end of the month, once the city square is clean and the ribbons have been distributed to participating citizens, the newest residents of Havenwell will wake to the sound of music floating over the city. During the night while people slept, the natives decorated the city with streamers, brightly colored lanterns, and strings of beautiful lights that glow no matter the hour of the day. The natives have decorated themselves, too, and provide the offworlders with clothing and decorations to match. Garishly colored sashes, brilliantly (artificially) plumed hats, skirts and tunics, boas and fake flower leis - just about anything you can imagine, they're wearing. In and around the city square there are long tables of oddly colored finger foods - orange-colored grapes, bright pink meats, blue cheeses and the like are provided along with golden chocolates, fuchsia frosted cupcakes with pink cake underneath, and minty green cookies. The foods might look strange, but at least they mostly taste like they're supposed to. The citizens are trying, they promise.

All around the fountain depicting the four gods in the center of the square, pre-recorded music is playing and the natives are dancing in pairs, groups, and lines. Join them for a dance and they'll happily teach you the local customs, or break out your own moves and share your world's best moves to earn some applause and awkward attempts at recreating them.

The big game of the night is shared by the natives and it's announced halfway through the party. The culmination of the Ribbon Games is a contest to try and collect a set of four ribbons - one from each different god's temple. The rules are simple:
  1. Attach your ribbons to yourself in a clearly visible location.
  2. Tag and hold someone else for more than 1 minute. You can bear hug them, hold their hands, link arms, anything!
  3. After sustaining contact, you can take one of their ribbons. If you aren't the character who initiated contact, you can't take a ribbon.
  4. Gather one of each god's ribbon in order to win a prize!

If you successfully manage to get all four ribbons, a little shower of confetti will burst from your ribbons and a nice little chunk of Dora will be transferred to your account. This can only work once unfortunately, but it's a nice little bonus for your first month in Havenwell! The party continues late into the night and the natives are happy to keep the party going as long as any of the offworlders wish to keep dancing.

As a reminder, please post your character to the Taken Character list and your own information to the Player Contact list as soon as possible. It helps us keep track of our player cap!

If you have any other questions, please ask them in the QUESTION thread below. Feel free to use the CR/Intro Meme to do OOC plotting. Otherwise, welcome to Hugtopia's first mingle log!

[Regis lowers his head, eyes closing for a moment. He knows Cor is trying to comfort him, but he can't let go of the blame he places on himself so easily. At least feeling his old friend's heart beating so steadily under his hand is calming even if he's not quite sure why.]

Clarus was needed outside of the Wall to lead our troops against Niflheim. Had they started attacking the Wall, I'm not certain I could have maintained it with all the amplifiers so suddenly gone.

[Not that he could have maintained the Wall at all if he was dead, but he hadn't been thinking about that then. He had only been thinking of those who were already dead and how many more might die each minute he allowed the attack to continue.

Regis takes a deep breath then, pushing all of that away. There is nothing either he or Cor can do about any of that while they are here, so there is no since lingering in such painful memories. He plasters a smile that doesn't quite reach his eyes onto his face, looks up at Cor and then wraps his hand around the one over his and starts pulling his friend toward one of the clothing carts.]

We need to dress you up! This is a festival. Come along!
flawed_immortality: (shame)

[personal profile] flawed_immortality 2019-08-06 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
[He squeezes Regis' hand, knowing it's not that easy, not for something so recent. He wants to say something to comfort and soothe but he struggles to find the right words. Clarus was always better at this.

And before he can come to a decision Regis is pulling him along, awkwardly stumbling after his King, brow furrowed in concern. It's been so very, very long since the King he knew hid behind joy and frivolity and seeing that haunted smile again breaks his heart. He wants to tell him to stop, to stay. To just let Cor hold him close and protect him from all the future will burden him with.

Regis would never allow it though, not for a moment. So if the only way to shield him from it is to play along with his boundless chaos then so be it. Cor rolls his eyes as they stop beside a cart, allowing the gesture to be overly dramatic to ensure he can clear that pain from his expression when he looks back at the monstrous assembly of feathers and fabrics.]

Majesty, I assure you, I needn't "dress up".
kingkingcxiii: Before (Before)

[personal profile] kingkingcxiii 2019-08-07 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
You're obviously not a boa person, but we need to find you something.

[Is he even listening? Probably not, but he also doesn't let go of Cor's hand as he digs through the cart's contents with his other. It's almost like he's afraid if he does, Cor will vanish leaving him with no one to help distract him from the dark feelings that still are floating too close to the surface.]

Ah, now see. This will be perfect!

[Regis finally pulls a lapel pin from the pile. Compared to everything else, the pin is actually quite tame, it's small red and pink rose highlighted by just a touch of gold.]

What do you think? Not too terrible, right? I'm quite certain I remember you having to wear worse back home.
flawed_immortality: (it changes all)

[personal profile] flawed_immortality 2019-08-08 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
[Cor is admittedly just as reluctant to release his King and if Regis isn't going to separate them he's not going to initiate it. In fact he even gives his hand a gentle squeeze as he's sifting through pins and flowers, grounding and a quiet reassurance while the abruptly much younger man babbled on to fill the quiet.]

No, not terrible. Especially considering.....

[He side eyes the cart and some of the more outlandish items within, shaking his head. Really he's grateful Regis has found something that won't be too horrific for him to endure. Of course putting the pin on will require both hands and Cor reluctantly lets Regis' hand slip away. A moment of breathlessness and he surrenders, steps closer, reaches out to rest that same hand against Regis' side. The position makes it seem as though, once the pin is placed, Cor might sweep him away from the stands and onto the dance floor, even though they both know that's never going to happen.]
kingkingcxiii: Who (Who)

[personal profile] kingkingcxiii 2019-08-15 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
[Perhaps if they both wish hard enough it might happen. No one in this place would bat an eye, Regis is certain and that might be why he pauses for so long once Cor has stepped closer and rested his hand against his side. It's so strange having the comforting and steady presence he is used to feeling from Clarus coming from Cor. Oh, he knows Cor has it in him, but the man he knows back home is still growing into the man who is standing in front of him now. There is a slight dissonance there even though the presence itself is very much welcomed.]

It is no boa, but I think I've terrorized enough people with those tonight.

[Regis steps just a little closer so he can slip his hand inside of Cor's jacket to feel for the pin when it comes through. After all, he doesn't want to accidentally poke his old friend. He's surprised, though, when his hand finds, not the back of the jacket as he expects, but a very familiar-feeling tassel instead. He freezes, not bothering to pull the tassel free to confirm the thought that has caused his chest to tighten as if an icy claw just wrapped itself around him. A long shaky breath slips from his mouth and he forces his eyes up to meet Cor's. There is pain in his gaze and fear, even though he tries to push them away.]

It's better if I don't ask.

[His words hover between a question and a statement, and Regis makes no move to clarify which they are. He will let Cor interpret them as he best sees fit.]
flawed_immortality: (hiding)

[personal profile] flawed_immortality 2019-08-19 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[As soon as he realizes where Regis' hand is going Cor reaches up to stop him. Too little, too late. That familiar tassel doesn't flow as smoothly over his fingers as it should, blood and rust locking many of the links in place so they cannot move. It's a beat too late but Cor's hand grasps Regis' wrist, the grip perhaps a little too hard in his desperation to stop what he knows is coming.

That look.

Pain and fear and hope all battling in his Majesty's eyes. All Cor can do is shake his head a little, take another half step forward and the hand at his side slides around Regis' waist drawing him into a hug. It may not be a verbal answer but it is answer enough. He will not give details, not just yet, but neither will he lie to his King.]
kingkingcxiii: Defeat (Defeat)

[personal profile] kingkingcxiii 2019-08-19 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[Regis doesn't resist when Cor pulls him into the hug, the pin falling to the ground forgotten as he curls his hands against his old friend's jacket. With things as bad as they are with the Niffs, it was silly, perhaps, for him to think he would go the same way his father did, body finally giving out under the strain that the Crystal put on it. Still, going by Cor's age, whatever happens, happens may years in the future. There is nothing he can do about it now, so instead of pondering it, he pushes the thoughts away, closing his eyes and just letting himself drown in the comforting presence of his friend. Cor always makes him feel safe and that is something he is sure will never change.

Don't mind that he's shaking just a little. It will pass soon.]
flawed_immortality: (shame)

[personal profile] flawed_immortality 2019-08-24 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[Cor will be beside him until it passes. He uses the arm around Regis' waist to guide his King away from the main festivities. Not out of them entirely, no, His Majesty needs the distraction. But he finds them a bench, tucked out of the way to watch others make fools of themselves and to let Regis' mind come to terms with what that tassel in his jacket means.

The last thing Cor wants is to hurt him but there's really no way around that particular bit of information. ]
kingkingcxiii: Regret (Regret)

[personal profile] kingkingcxiii 2019-08-27 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[And this is why he feels so safe with Cor. Even before Regis has been able regain enough control over himself to know what he needs, his friend is moving to fulfill those needs. He lets himself be led to the bench with no resistance, curing into Cor's side once they are settled, his head resting on his friend's shoulder. For the moment, he leaves his eyes closed, letting sound and touch be the only thing to ground him. It's enough. Later he will open his eyes, when he trusts them not to take what he sees and attempt to twist them into visions of what will come to be.]
