Affurgato Mingle: July edition
♥ Who: Open to all
♥ Where: Affurgato
♥ When: This week
♥ What: An open mingle at the restaurant which is... mysteriously celebratory!
♥ Rating: who knows, probably PG/13ish?
Regulars of Affurgato might notice things have spiced up a little bit in the last several days; the decor is a little brighter, the staff more upbeat, and the food, while tasty as ever, is a little different. The restaurant is advertising a summer menu of slow-cooked BBQ sliders, sweet potato fries with honey butter dip, grilled pineapple and watermelon slices, and warm peach cobbler with ice cream. The prices are slightly more premium than usual, but ooh, doesn't it all smell worth it? Newcomers might even get a discount, if the right elf twin gets their bill. But how do you know which one's the right twin? ...Yeah, good luck with that.
For this week, the menu will include two curious additions as well: a Thanksgiving-esque meal including fresh slabs of turkey and stuffing, flavoured with bacon grease, and a slice of rainbow layer cake. The cats are very attentive, especially to recognizably good tippers, and there's a display sign outside the door with a doodle of a binicorn in flashy sunglasses shouting the words "ONE YEAR MORE, NERDS", which might be weird to those who know that Affurgato opened about six months ago. Ah, well.
Also noteworthy is the fact that an actual, tangible magical bicicorn will be running around for the first 45 minutes of every daily shift that the restaurant is open, trying to scoop people up onto his back and deposit them in front of the shop. You're here now, so you might as well get a meal, right? Don't question it.
Come one, come all! Enjoy some good food and the company of your neighbours, maybe visit the elves and see what's up.

[ So many people give more than one, and it's not easy to tell which is the correct address. ]
no subject
[ He gives a laugh with a light shrug. Maybe that's a little too nonchalant. ]
Go by what you'd be most comfortable calling me, I don't mind.
no subject
[ A light jest in return. Given she was someone who had struggled for a considerable amount of time before being able to introduce herself or even remembering to do so, she'd endured plenty of nicknames from Taako in that time to be used to it.
Being used to Taako meant having a lot of tolerance, really. She gestures for him to choose one of the empty tables. ]
We'll try Satoru for now, then.
no subject
They've yet to meet in person at this time, so Satoru doesn't know who Honerva is referring to and he gets a little interested. ]
Oh? I'd like to hear how many creative names people would be able to give me then.
[ That aside, he'll give a smile to Honerva's choice and complies to the offer and randomly picks an empty table, making himself comfortable in the seat. ]
no subject
Being around strangers is one way to try that at least. If they're creative enough.
[ There's a lilt to her tone, she's not being very serious with that. ]
I'll send your order in, then... what sort of beverage do you prefer? There's a variety there as well.
no subject
[ Putting that aside for now, he turns his attention to drinks. ]
Hmm, I'd like some strawberry milkshake then, thanks!
no subject
[ Honerva lifts her gaze toward the windows--the inside ones that also serve as a place to request an order if someone wasn't immediately present on the floor to do so. She seems to focus her gaze intently in that direction for a moment, before shifting her gaze back toward him. ]
One of the cats will likely meander their way over soon enough as well. Is there anything else I can assist you with?
no subject
Well, if you're not super busy, maybe you could help me out with getting familiar with what kind of people are here. Is magic a common thing here?
[ He's spent the first day or so being human glue and getting stuck to other people. While it was funny, it'd be nice if he can better prepare for any surprises. ]
no subject
... I suppose it depends on what you mean by 'common'. The existence of magic from universe to universe can take different forms and perhaps not even compare, with the variety of people drawn here either being knowledgeable about it in some ways or having not experienced it at all from their respective planets. So it is a mixed result no matter how one looks at it.
[ It's an interesting thought, though; so much of what they do right here in the cafe, they know is a bit different from what others might be expecting, but for herself, Honerva mostly goes along with however the twins choose to present themselves in her own adaptation of it. ]
And then this world itself, of course, relies on the energy generated from contact to turn into a divine force, which is something else entirely.
no subject
[ Satoru hums for a moment, tapping his chin. ] I've never actually left my homeworld's planet before ending up here, so I'm still a beginner with powers from different worlds. I guess there isn't really a good way to explain how human contact magic thing for this world... would there?
no subject
[ Though it can be too easy to get caught up in explanations, and that most people seemed to have been bound to one particular world before turning up somewhere else, though he does seem open minded at least, to the prospects of it. She hums thoughtfully. ]
... As for your question, I suppose there is no simple scientific explanation beyond the relation to the supporting evidence for it. Without this generated energy, the world does not seem able to maintain its stability for supporting life. Even most areas within this barrier were previously barren and poisoned before it was able to expand and neutralize those areas once there was enough divine energy to do so. In a way, as the system currently stands, it seems fickle, with how much of it relies on the presence of otherworlders.
no subject
What a bummer, since I'm trying to also figure out how to go about without needing contact to enable my abilities. My power's been locked behind the wall of having to touch someone ever since I've arrived here, and it's been a little too annoying at times when I can't use my own powers at will, you know?
no subject
I see... I am aware that there have been few arrivals who have found themselves... hm. Perhaps meddled with in some form, though we haven't quite determined why that is, or why it seems so arbitrary. A theory is that these gods can only support so much with the energy they have to bring people here at all, and there are quite a few powerful people present.
... In your case, since that issue resolves itself with contact, that means you are not completely limited so long as you can rely on someone to supply you with what you require, and that still serves the goals of these gods. To that end, perhaps it may change if the gods themselves grow stronger.
[ It's still very much a theory, though, without much to support it; other limitations that she was aware of hadn't seemed to involve contact. ]
no subject
[ The priests were talking about some gods needing power through human contact and whatnot when he first arrived here. It's ironic how a civilization that excelled in technology needed gods to keep their world alive.
On the flip side, with Honerva's explanation, it does make more sense that his powers are disabled by default, especially when he's been considered to be the strongest sorcerer in his homeworld. ]
Do you guys know if the gods are sharing their powers with each other? I mean, I have a feeling that not all gods get the same amount of energy.
[ Considering prior to showing up at this cafe, he's run into two people who were averse to human contact, he's going to assume that not all people who were brought here are actively helping with the original request. ]
no subject
[ What a question, the answer something of a "yes and no". But she had researched this matter personally, so she can at least explain further. ]
However, the energy that is generated does unify, regardless of the composition. We have witnessed the effects of that cumulative power. The city itself was much different when we first arrived, smaller and far more barren, but there has been significant growth and change just a few months ago.
no subject
[ It's a bummer that there's still a lot of things that haven't been figured out, although Satoru himself isn't worried about it too much. When the other does mention how things have changed in the city, it does remind him of another conversation he's had a few days prior. ]
Ah, right! A guy did let me know how things did change since the first group arrived last year. I think the guy's name was Prompto, and he was nice enough to give me a tour when I first arrived here. He's actually recommended this place, too!
no subject
[ When he speaks further to explain, her ears give a surprised, but pleased wiggle. That's certainly a name to soften her expression. ]
... Is that so? He is a good friend of mine, so you can trust him to not have led you astray.
no subject
Ahh, so I take it that you've been here since last year also? I guess that'd be the correct assumption since you do work at this cafe with an anniversary celebration.
no subject
We have been here for a year, but the cafe itself was established a few months ago. This 'anniversary' is more personal, for the owners... it only happens to coincide otherwise with the timing.
[ For some reason, it's just hard to say plainly that it's a birthday party, even if she knows what's up. ]
no subject
[ He guessed wrong, but that's fine since it's part of his learning process. He may act smart and know-it-all, but he's never was an honor student. In fact, he was more of a problem student being yelled at for retaining information poorly while he as in high school.
He's also not curious enough to butt into other people's personal affairs so he decides to not ask any further than that. ]
Anywho, thanks so much for all the info! It's so much handier to learn what other people who're brought here know than just from what the temple priests were saying. That way, I don't end up doubling the efforts, you know?
no subject
It was no trouble. No experience is truly the same, but it helps to vary sources and perspective when arriving somewhere unfamiliar.
[ That all said, her gaze lifts toward the serving window where an order seems to be set out. How's that for service? ]
All that said, it seems your meal is ready. I'll retrieve for you.
no subject
Awesome! I'm super excited to try them out.
[ He does mean it, although his usual smile and demeanor probably ends up diminishing his sincerity. ]
no subject
[ Honerva doesn't know him well enough to determine what his usual smile and demeanor might mean, at least.
When she retrieves the tray and brings it over, however, he might notice that while her hands are placed as though she's supporting it, she isn't quite touching it directly, all the more evident when it the plates are carefully set upon the table for him. ]
