A: It's a Hat
[ For those who have met Pyra, they may probably recall that a golden headband set with a peculiar crystal usually sits atop her hair. Today that isn't the case. Instead, she appears to have swapped the accessory with something a little-- rather, a lot different: a hat. Not just any hat, but a flat-brimmed western, of which some may recognize belonging to another resident of the town.
It's too big for her head, and in accordance with the fickle weather of the city, a gust of wind blows the hat right off. ] ...Ah!
[ It's flying right at you, too. Catch it? Or, even if you don't, she will, sprinting and leaping past you to ensure that it does not touch the ground. This hat is important! Very important! She's not going to let it become damaged if she can help it. Whether you or she manages to save it from a fall, she breathes out a sigh of relief, smiling at you as she straightens up, tossing her hair. ] ...Thank goodness. That was a close one. [ Then, a polite bow. ] I'm sorry about that.
B: Wacky Weather
[ The weather is just... weird. And cold, very cold in this particular district, which may or may not be the most important district because it is the shopping district. But look at her, still dressed in the same outfit as ever! She's currently peering into one of the shops... There's a scarf. A very fluffy scarf on one of the mannequins that she's staring at.
Aaaaand since she's unnaturally warm and doesn't need it, she turns away from it only to spot..... you, at which point her eyes widen and she draws a quick breath, making her way over. Don't mind her, quickly reaching for both of your hands to take into hers, warming them with the unnatural heat of her touch. ]
Oh, no, you look almost frostbitten...
[ Guiding your hands up further, she brings them up to her mouth where she blows onto them gently, then rubbing her hands quickly over yours. ] Better?

It would not be the first time she would have to borrow from another source, to refine or enhance her capabilities around blocks she knew must still exist. ]
A prism, is it...
[ For a moment she withdraws her hand that rests upon the barrier to create a dark floating sphere with it, small and condensed, it hangs in the air between them and the barrier, the deep purple glow retreating until it reflects what surrounds it like a mirror wreathed in smoke. ]
We can... begin together with this. When you are ready.
[ And she closes her eyes. It is a magical construct that they truly need only their minds for, but this would be a more definitive way to direct the flow of both of their energy. Especially since she did not know yet what Pyra's would fully entail. How it would feel. ]
no subject
As soon as Honerva feels the touch of her hand, inhumanly warm, she will also feel a vast depth of power unleashed unto her, flowing from her to Honerva in a stream of golden light until it engulfs them both in a golden, wispy sheen. Within her, however, she will begin to experience a few new boons.
Chiefly, an energy that is adaptable, and seemingly intelligent all on its own, coming from Pyra to Honerva. With a presence unlike anything of the present world, it might almost feel basic as if it encompasses all yet perfect in its uniformity, a constant as sure as both reality and concept, the boundary between wave and particle, perfect, divine.
This power's effects immediately weave into Honerva's own, naturally siphoning not her own power in exchange, but information on it instead-- to become Honerva's own power and that of her world, so that she might use it for herself. This power is now hers to use as she sees fit. With it comes a tremendous increase in a focus of the mind: sharpened, enlightened, she may begin to see weaknesses in whatever is in front of her: the hovering mirror, the wall itself, her very own hand, only for the nonsense, extraneous information to be blurred out a moment later. With this power, the barrier before her might sound like a cacophony of energy, she might even feel as if she still touches it although her hands have withdrawn; she will feel connected to the world...
The power does not direct her, however. This is Honerva's power now, supplied from Pyra to her, and free for Honerva to use as she sees fit for what they are attempting to accomplish. ]
no subject
Inwardly, she was startled: Though her eyes are closed, they feel opened wide, seeing clearer, further. The energy surges throughout her, flowing, connecting, as though it were--at least temporarily--completing an unfinished bridge, that link to her ancestors that she had ever sought. This sensation, this sudden simple and yet complex change that blooms within, enhancing and complementing her abilities in a natural way. Such moments of clarity were all too rare, elusive, and yet here in the most unexpected of places, should she be granted it, unasked.
She cannot marvel in what this does to herself, for that is not the purpose for which Pyra allows her this energy, this quiet allowance of trust. It is meant only to explore and understand what is front of them, and to keep to such a boundary is difficult, as much as it tempts, as much as it calls to her on varying levels, deep and ever aching.
It is very, very difficult, and it's for the sake of those here that she cares for that she does not run with it.
Understanding, now, this flow and how best to apply it. Clarity. Only the barrier before them matters, ever brighter and louder and containing... secrets.
And so she begins: the mirror before them clears of its lingering wisps of dark so it can fulfill its purpose. She places her hand to the barrier once more, taking in those readings it gives out. The intention of the sphere is to capture the resonance of those readings, to help them translate them into something that made sense, of this world, to reflect the state of the energy within it.
Or at least what was being purposed within this barrier... ]
no subject
However. Should she attempt to study it from her perspective before it turns into her own, whether it be out of curiosity-- it is simultaneously universal yet anisotropic, as if the past, present, and future are all contained within. The temptation to be lost within it and have more may be very real, should she be susceptible to the pursuit of revelation....
Pyra stands behind her, hand upon her shoulder, and then... she leans forward to rest her forehead upon the other woman's upper back. The gesture is meant to be tender, reassuring. What they are trying to do here-- she can do it. Honerva can do this, Pyra believes in her. She whispers without speaking:
Focus.
And the direction of the energy is maintained, given to Honerva in a surge of more, tempered only by the bottleneck of their tether. Conceptually, the lens of the mirror sharpens enough to incorporate her mind into it, and then she will see. The light of the barrier teases apart under its scrutiny, unraveling from its braids of light and energy like a helix beneath an degrading enzyme-- or more accurately, like a wave function stretched to an accordion line, falling apart thereafter. Only then may she dip her fingers into the matrix to separate the light, to become the prism herself....
They will discover what others might have suspected but not confirmed alone until now: that the barrier and this power that supplies it... only appears uniform in nature, or perhaps meshes into some uniformity. Beneath this appearance, the discrepancy is apparent. There are four types found within the barrier.
Focus, she breathes again. They need to know more.
This extra bought of power will push the both of them. Her brow furrows as she continues to channel what she can to Honerva-- but they must press on. Here she intends to have the energy examined further, now with more intense concentration and enough that she might help guide Honerva to divine right between the very angstroms of the four energies found within the barrier.
She can do this-- Honerva can do this, and here they will discover:
There is no counter to this divine energy, no law of cancellation, no anti-particle to its power. An opposite to this energy in this world does not exist; instead the behavior of the examined energy appears to imply a system of complements and balances. The energy produced does come from positive touch, but the opposite is simply not true. There is no physical direction towards which it travels, either; it seems to be generated and acquired wherever contact occurs. ]
no subject
The energy provided to her behaves as quintessence does, and that is a power she is intimately familiar with, and at that concentration of purity, it is a power that she can understand and utilize as much as she must ensure that what is within her does not seek to
(corrupt)
(It is the true force that guides the universe, life energy that lives in and betwixt realities.)
It is a powerful boon and she must not falter, even with the sense of possibility it brings. It is revitalizing as well as overwhelming, but her mind must remain strong and ignore the siren call of the
(chaos, the darkness)
It is good that Pyra is there, that her unspoken words and even--that unbidden support, can steady her, serve as guidance, away from the other. She must focus, she is the conduit for this, the work they have come here to do.
... to become the prism itself. It is the energy that twists within this barrier that must be understood, the understanding that must be disassembled into very basic components, to see the cohesion within. And they stood here on the precipice of discovery. She must allow herself to dive in with her mind, focus on this, and nothing else.
(What are you?) she asks the barrier, without words, asks of that energy, of the imbalance, feels it swirl together and can feel the differences in weight and composition. It is all... positive, the imbalance is not from a lack or something eating away at it. There is so much here, to discover, and channeling becomes easier, once she allows it to take all of her focus.
(Good. Show me-)
And then to decipher, further... how does it complement, what can it be traced to? These... values, these Four separate energies within... and one far more weighted than the rest. Yet this must represent the Gods, the energy they receive, and how that protection is incorporated here. The energy simply is. It does not travel, but somehow it is received, it lives.
The readings they take from here today may not be the same as the readings they may receive at another time... and yet it is imperative, a snapshot, of this moment, to grasp some understanding of this world. ]
no subject
All too suddenly, the power bequeathed to her retreats, and the rest of what she does that store or keep within reserves evaporates on the spot. Pyra's head snaps up, but her hand remains upon her shoulder. ]
Someone is coming. We have to leave--
no subject
The metallic footfalls, first faint from a distance, then quickened, as certainly what they were accomplishing here must have seemed like a beacon in the distance. No, they had to get away. There was no time to process all of this. ]
Stay close-
[ ... Is all the warning Pyra will get, in a soft rasping of her voice before she's whisked away in an instant. In an instant, they are traveling, through energy, they are but stardust --
And then together, they reappear, in that same instant. They're on a rooftop, some distance from their previous location. It provides a good vantage point, for observing the streets and alleys below. Not one reached or looked for with ease. A retreat.
She slumps her shoulders forward, breathing heavily. ]
no subject
She feels out of her body as they flash from one point to the other, and Pyra staggers a bit as they touch down upon the roof from the teleportation, still holding onto Honerva.
She would have congratulated her or expressed some of her awe at the other woman's power, but noticing that she seems spent-- Pyra quickly adjusts her stance to better support her, one arm going around to her side with the other holds onto her shoulder. If she needs to sit, she will guide her gently down to the ground. ] ...Are you alright?
[ That really had been close. Thank goodness Honerva has that ability. ]
no subject
To be able to carry another with her on top of what they had already accomplished together took so much more in that moment.
Now she is unbalanced, and so she does not speak nor resist, allowing Pyra to guide her down to her knees so she does not crumple on her own. She had been entrusted with power and now she too, must trust the other with stability, and she is not of a mind to allow herself to think further than that.
What is imperative is that now she must center herself, allow the dizziness and unevenness to untangle itself, simply wait for her energy levels to rise once more to something more manageable.
(Her reserves are not all tapped, but for this moment, she is spent. This crash was far too sudden for her liking, but it could not be helped in this moment.)
This planet does impose its limits upon her, and so she must adjust for that as well.
Pyra has asked her a question, though it takes a few moments before she delivers her quiet response: ]
... yes.
[ They were here, they had gathered some measure of information even if a full discussion was temporarily beyond her. She was too vulnerable for a stranger's presence, but for all of this, as she maneuvers her breathing into more even breaths, she maintains composure. ]
no subject
She keeps her hand upon Honerva's shoulders, watching her with concern, taking in her exhausted state. With a little bit of effort, Pyra shutters a fraction of her power to transfer to her. It will feel not unlike a reassuring touch, as if it is to meant to lift her up (metaphorically speaking). Pyra will spare what she can for her. Parsing through information, energy, and data is not unusual for a begin like her, and she's still reveling in the brilliant intricacies of the barrier and its origin of its power... before she's reminded once more that-- yes, they did accomplish this. They did succeed.
Isn't that something worth celebrating?
She smiles. ]
...May I hug you?
no subject
And while she reminds herself of this, she feels Pyra's gaze upon her. Another question...? Even with her composure, there is yet the flutter of confusion from the slight bend of the tips of her ears. ]
... you may.
[ There's a vague puzzled lilt to the words. Pyra had already gone out of her way to demonstrate a kindness toward her and there's no reason to deny the offer; she just seems unused to the consideration. ]
no subject
Pyra, too, is tired, so her shoulders are slumped forward as she leans into her for the embrace.
She's happy. She's happy they did something-- well, no, it's likely others already hypothesized what they've discovered-- but they confirmed it! ]
--Honerva! [ She giggles. ] You did-- what you did was amazing. How do I... ah, I felt it, I felt what you did... It's like you [ How does she even begin to describe it. Pyra takes a breath. ] like you dipped into an ocean and pulled out individual grains of sand at the very bottom!
no subject
Even if she had allowed the embrace, she is still... surprised, by the level of exuberance that Pyra displays. The experiment had not been conducted with any expectation of praise; the goal had only been to seek knowledge, or any confirmation they could place to floating theory. Such was the way of work, of setting one's self toward purpose, to block out anything else that might interfere.
Not that she was unaccustomed to inspiring such awe in others, but such things were often from a distance, from those who only wanted her power for themselves.
But for Pyra's reactions now she must grasp for her words. ]
... We have accomplished much. The readings were clear, and there can be no doubt in them.
no subject
Thinking back to Honerva's power, however, she feels that there is so much more to explore. There had been something unique about the feel of her, like among the myriad of stars in the universe she had touched upon one with poles, or perhaps a negative charge-- illustriously speaking, not literally. Chaotic, dark, but... mixed, somehow. She's not quite sure.
Back to business, though. Pyra settles into the embrace. ] Mm... Yes. There is a discrepancy within the four energies.
no subject
Better to focus on the present, the findings. The embrace was steadying, strangely enough, once one got past the strangeness. She finds her words more readily, when they are not related to her own condition. ]
Yes... one energy was far more weighted than the others. And if what had transpired during our first month here is any indication, there is a possibility that something within the barrier may shift as a result.
[ She'd recounted it to her previously, she was certain; about how Ainea's familiars had run rampant, and even without a physical test to prove it, there were signs. Although this particular imbalance was not in the favor of that particular god... ]
However the power seems intended to behave harmoniously, without countering the others.
no subject
[ If-- if it turns out something terrible happens that can be easily linked to Rawna.... Even if she may not be the only one giving touch as an offering to that god, it would crush her to know that all that she's been trying for has brought harm.
However, she hopes that the barrier at least will remain intact even though one signature is far beyond the rest. While she does not pale, while her expression does not change and her tone remains the same as before, her embrace does loosen. She settles back to sit next to her, keeping her hand upon a shoulder. ]
Oh, yes, that's... And-- I think that's incredible, too, how there is no, ah, negative energy to counter any of those four. It is a system very different from my own world.
no subject
[ And while there was no precise proof of correlation at the time, it was at least a start; a noticeable physical change since their arrival here.
Honerva is only stating fact, and if she's aware that her words have taken any negative effect on Pyra, she still continues in her measured tones. This was work; and their part in perhaps providing too much blessing was not necessarily a cause for blame when the gods themselves had pulled them in and were bound to have an imbalance to begin with.
It fits more theory. Just nice to actually have more conclusive evidence of it. ]
This also indicates that the flow is likely to shift whenever there is a pull of new arrivals here. The status of the energy does change, so monitoring it may be an option to take.
[ ... So long as they don't get caught, and that... hm. ]
no subject
...How often do you think we should attempt to monitor? Once a month, or more...?
[ And yet-- ] Even if we do monitor this on our own, it could be that the locals already have a way that they are simply not... telling us.
no subject
[And yet through no effort of their own, their very plight depended on them. What irony. Still her tone remains measured.]
Even if they were to share their findings, they could tell us anything they would require us to believe. Although... any attempts to monitor it on our own would likely not go unnoticed.
no subject
[ Even if it might be dangerous that they should get caught, she would risk it. They can even try to monitor a different part of the barrier. ] If only to confirm that the energy signatures do change.
no subject
[ If Pyra hadn't offered, she would have considered doing so on her own, for while they had answers, there was always more to be had, risks or not. And yet ... ]
Although on the... chance that something were to occur to us while we were doing so, whom is it that I need answer to for your safety?
no subject
Have you met Somnus? He and I share a townhouse. [ While she is not quite sure if he truly would care about her safety per se, she presumes he'd at least be curious as to her whereabouts.
Moving on. ]
And what about yourself? [ She's guessing Lup, but she knows she must ask just in case. ]
no subject
[ Because he had not introduced himself during their encounter, of course, she had no means of placing him.
It takes her a moment to consider the return question. Really, she should have anticipated it for putting it out there herself, but such a thing was still... newer for her. This return of consideration, as though the other woman were not still supporting her at this moment. ]
... You may contact Lup, and be certain that she contacts her brother as well. However, it is best that we inform them all beforehand of our intent.
[ Even if there seemed to be no inherent dangers in this, they had time for such an arrangement, as opposed to her prior pursuits outside of the barrier. ]
no subject
[ Of course, telling them beforehand as Honerva suggests hadn't even occured to Pyra. ] Oh, ah. I'll tell him, yes. Here, let me share his contact information with you...
no subject
Hopefully there will be no emergency to require it, but it is best not to misplace such care.
