♥ October Event Log

scary spooky jack o' lantern and steampunk windmill with alien ship and moon
October (Lasohm) Event Log

The last breath of summer leaves along with the month of Ohnir, and now fall has come to Havenwell with Lasohm. The leaves on the trees in the conservatories and botanical gardens are changing, the days are no longer hot but seasonably warm and the nights bring a cool relief. The air turns crisp and sharp and the daylight hours are starting to lose out to the evening dark. Thankfully, Havenwell is well lit even at night, and the dark gloom is chased away now that the city's colors are (mostly) restored to their original glory. Here and there, patches of gray still exist, but thanks to everyone's efforts, things are back to normal.

Hopefully those dreams didn't plague you too much, offworlders. The citizens certainly didn't seem to notice...

PROMPT I: The Havenwell Archives
black and white storage shelving with data boxes

Lasohm is another month that belongs to Ohma and as such, a small group of citizens decide that it might be great for the offworlders to help with something that might please the feline god. These citizens are marked with a sash with the sign of a quill on it, a decidedly antique symbol considering how technologically advanced the people are. They hand out fliers to any who will take them, offering a small amount of Dora in compensation to any who will help the Havenwell Archives repair and restore their books. The Archives is a large building in the south and its doors, which have been sealed shut until now, are slightly ajar, allowing people entry.

Head to the Archives and you'll be greeted by one of a handful of robotic citizens, all wearing that quill-emblazoned sash, and directed to a small room where you and other offworlders are put to the task of reassembling history texts that have fallen into disrepair. Most of the writing is illegible, but it seems that these books are important to the Archives for more than just the information contained within. As you work, you might notice that talking and sharing information about yourself or engaging in physical contact near these books with the other people in your room makes the text on your pages a little more legible, a little easier to read and understand....

OOC: Those who choose this prompt, please comment to the Mod thread on the OOC Plotting Post. You will be randomized to receive a small blurb that your character will be given to transcribe. This is limited to one blurb per player.

PROMPT II: Chase the Rabbit
Those plagued by the dreams with their strange, indistinct figure will find that they haven't gone away even as the month changes to Lasohm. Not everyone is dreaming about this stranger and they don't come every night, but that might be a small comfort to those who see the figure lurking in their dreams, watching silently. They no longer flit away when you look at them though and instead, start holding their unnaturally long arms out to you. Their outline is like a shadow and it feels like you might fall into their arms if you keep looking at them. It's almost tempting, but the way the figure beckons and approaches without actually moving its legs seems unnatural. Every time you blink, it grows closer and larger and its arms are opened wide for you. You get the distinct feeling that, should you embrace it, it would be like dropping into an endless, dark void, which is wen a sense of vertigo seizes you and wakes you up.

The vertigo plagues you even into the waking hours and out of the corner of your eye, you can see that figure from your dreams, arms outstretched and waiting. The only way to rid yourself of this phantom is to let another character hold you tight, in the same way that figure seems to want to do. Letting another character hug you dispels the dreams entirely this time - the phantom figure dissipates, the dreams stop, and it seems like everything is back to normal for you.

Those who accept the phantom's hug, however....? Well. Let's just say they have very different dreams that night.

PROMPT III: Catch the Rabbit
a dark image featuring a silhouette of a person staring down a floating fish monster, with the text YOU SHOULD WAKE UP BEFORE YOU FORGET HOW beneath it

Those who accept the phantom's hug also see it vanish from the daylight and it seems like everything is fine. It's gone, just like everyone else has said, and there's nothing lurking in the shadows anymore. You go to sleep that night and that's when it hits you. That sense of vertigo is awful and the dreams? They're back, but this time, they're a little different.

The White Rabbit: You're not alone in this space. Whether it's by accident or by some bond of fate, someone else is here with you. All around you, the world is empty and pure white, stretching into eternity and blank, like it's waiting for something - and it is. It's waiting for you. Once you recognize one another, the world reforms to take on the appearance of a dream you've had before, or a memory from long ago. The other person in your dream is conscious of this not being real, but you? Well...maybe you're aware and maybe you're not. Whatever the case may be, it seems the dream can end naturally as it's meant to, or your companion can try to wake you up. Because it's not just the two of your in this dream - that long-armed phantom is back and it's getting closer.

The Black Rabbit: The dreams are pitch black. You're floating in the darkness with nothing to tether you, whispers in foreign tongues all around you, words you can't understand. If you linger too long, the whispers grow louder, the sound of claws raking down metal approaching from behind and you know: you need to run. The dream seems to go forever, with you tumbling through the darkness, running on nothing, running to nothing, but definitely running from something. And then suddenly, there's someone with you, also fleeing the unseen horrors. As soon as you see them, the dream shifts and now you're experiencing each other's worst nightmares. Fend the terrors off by working together, holding one another, comforting each other as needed, but don't let them catch you.

Whichever dream you have, it ends when you see a figure suddenly appearing in front of you. The phantom that haunted you in your waking hours is back and you know that it sees you as well. Rather than come after you, however, the figure points to the side causing the walls of Havenwell to appear out of the dark, a bright beacon in the gloom. Then the figure opens a gaping, toothless mouth and wails, a bone deep sadness filling the air until the white walls of Havenwell begin to crumble like dust. You awaken with a jolt, the vision fading but the memories remaining.

PROMPT IV: It Warned You
a snarling monster in shadows with multiple red eyes and dripping skin

Toward the end of the month starting from October 28th, offworlders and natives alike will start hearing noises. A deep, quiet scratching, the sound of something dragging heavily against stone, or a leaden thump that seems to reverberate through the floors. Then a slow rhythmic banging starts up and for the first time, the offworlders will see the natives truly scared. They start retreating from the public, sealing themselves up into their homes or taking to the temples to pray. During this time, all other festivities start to close, the VR cafe still boasting bright advertisements for the Harvest Festival games are deserted, the businesses and streets barely have anyone in them. The only activity to be seen is that of the wall guards and the police who start patrolling the streets, trying to locate the source of the noise, stopping anyone they see to interrogate them.

This continues until noon on October 30th when a loud crack, like glass being broken, splits the quiet across the city. Those outside can look up and see a long spider web of breaks snake out along the blue sky. The crack splits and splinters the sky until it hits the wall to the north where it stops for a brief moment, and then the wall itself cracks. The banging intensifies and the plaster flakes, cracks, and with a horrific boom, it breaks and a thick hairy hand the size of a car reaches in, pulling the stone away to widen it into a hole through which a steady stream of small black spider-like creatures start to spill into the city. An alarm rings shrill and the guard and police take to action, but it's clear they're not prepared for this. Help if you can, offworlders, your home is under attack!

What to do: Fight the monsters that are breaking into the city. Most of them are relatively small, black spider-like creatures that have very basic melee attacks, using their fangs and their sharp legs to bite and claw at people. On occasion a rarer monster might appear that will take more than one person to kill - these might resemble strange versions of monsters from your respective worlds, though nothing larger than a horse is present. The giant hand that punched its way through the wall is gone and won't come back. Clear the city of monsters and find a way to seal the breach. This event will ICly run from October 30-31st with the breach being sealed late on the 31st.

This event will run from 09 October to 31 October. Click on each prompt's title to see the text. If you have any questions, feel free to direct them to the FAQ or to the Mod Question thread here.

Here we have one non-strategist meeting a second non-strategist, as Tamaki's doing his best to a) not get hurt while b) having no real idea of what he's doing despite c) wanting to help out anyway. But, boy oh boy, does it sure look this other guy here isn't so concerned with point 'a' in his own endeavors!!

"Whoa-!"

He dodges out of the way of a spider swipe, just in time to swing the makeshift bat he's picked up to whack that spider! It's not a hard enough strike to take it down entirely, but it definitely causes it to roll a somewhat more comfortable distance away.

"Hey, are you okay?!"

Getting those sweet kicks in and then absolutely eating shit looks! painful!! What are you doing!!!
whenyouneedme: (038)

hot dang!!

Here was exhibit A.) Someone Kai Didn't Know At All.

In the thick of many spiders, a response was not immediately forthcoming. There had to be a certain amount of flailing limbs first, largely in part because Kai decided grabbing one by some of its legs to use as a kind of flail on his way up was a good idea. So. Literal flailing limbs happening. It wasn't quite as effective as he'd imagined, but it at least cleared enough space for him to push himself up.

"Yeah-- fine!"

Don't mind the blood that's. Probably? Superficial.
21kingpuddings: (Hello I'm using a real phone)

[personal profile] 21kingpuddings 2019-10-16 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
You! Sure don't look fine!! But this situation looks particularly hairy, so maybe he'll save the concern for when there aren't so many creepy crawlies to deal with.

On the other hand, that was a pretty slick move hitting those motherfuckers with another motherfucker. Even if it wasn't as flawless of an idea as Kai may have wanted, credit shall be given where it's due; "That - was really cool!" Tamaki is impressed regardless.

Before they can be encroached upon again, he takes another swing to ward these monsters back a few more inches. Stay away!!!
whenyouneedme: (026)

[personal profile] whenyouneedme 2019-10-17 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
He was totally fine.

"Ha--" Here was a super cool Spider Kick! Wapow. He winced a little as the spider shrieked, pushing past the sound. And the everything to get closer to where Tamaki was. "Thanks. You good?"
21kingpuddings: (Mother trucker dude)

[personal profile] 21kingpuddings 2019-10-18 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
He doesn't believe you entirely, my guy!!

Tamaki looks far less worse for the wear. He hasn't managed to get by so far entirely unscathed, but his injuries are way more minor - shallow cuts and scratches from various spider strikes, small rips and tears in the fabric of his clothes, but his caution has paid off well enough that he sure as heck isn't in nearly as bad shape as Kai is.

"I'm good!" No complaints right now! Maybe later, when there aren't a bunch of monsters swarming the place! "You must've run into a whole lot of these things by now."
whenyouneedme: (127)

[personal profile] whenyouneedme 2019-10-18 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Well, we can't all be reckless idiots.

Kai couldn't actually tell you how many clusters of spiders he had dropped in on at this point in his quest to make sure people were okay. Probably he should have collapsed somewhere long before now, but a kind heron had to go and give him a boost. The reckless fool! A boost! Now all he was doing was trying not to waste it.

That was a while ago now, and honestly Kai looked a little woozy on his feet. Over-exertion? Blood loss?? Uh. Well. Maybe!

"Yeah! They just keep popping up!"
21kingpuddings: (How's it feel to be the worst cop ever?)

[personal profile] 21kingpuddings 2019-10-18 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes you can only be the normal kind of idiot. Alas.

But, Reyson, you fool, you madman! It's probably splendid for all of those people Kai's swooped in to save, but oh man does it look like that kind of power is reaching its limits hard by now. Tamaki takes a second to give him a good, serious look over, before deciding... maybe... retreating. was a good idea.

"You think there's anywhere nearby they wouldn't be?"

A building that's been cleaned out of them, or maybe even not touched in the first place?

[personal profile] whenyouneedme 2019-10-19 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
As it turned out, that buff was actually temporary. But shhh don't worry about. Placebos are a hell of a drug anyway. Even if he was aware that he'd already used that time, as long as he kept moving he could pretend he still had a bit of that magic momentum.

"Yeah, maybe one of the cafes or... something."

For whatever reason his thoughts swam when trying to bring in actual logistics. Funny thing, that. It was almost like good thinking strategies were linked to how stable a condition the rest of him was in. Weird!
21kingpuddings: (Is that a weed?)

[personal profile] 21kingpuddings 2019-10-20 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow! Who could have imagined that Kai wouldn't be granted an inexhaustible reserve of fighting spirit? What a surprising turn of events.

"One of the cafes, okay," he at least knew where those were, and honestly, if everyone's in a panic over these little menaces, then the chances that there'd be anyone hanging out in the entertainment district seem kind of slim. Maybe the lack of people will also mean a lack of spiders? He can hope, at any rate! Regardless, a reprieve from these things will be welcome for both himself, and, he can imagine, Kai. "Come on!"

Guess who! Is grabbing Kai's wrist! In an attempt to flee with him! It's this guy!!
whenyouneedme: (155)

[personal profile] whenyouneedme 2019-10-21 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
It was the difference between one encounter and maybe.... two.

"Yeah. Go ahead, I'll cover yo-- whoa!" That was the sound of someone getting dragged along that had given zero thought to actually following in any capacity. He stumbled a bit as the valiant attempt at pulling him along was made. Wait! Guy! There were spiders for him to squish???

"Uh--!"
21kingpuddings: (There's a bee?!)

[personal profile] 21kingpuddings 2019-10-22 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Kai looks pretty banged up by this point, but Tamaki's still fairly sure he should be able to get moving easily enough, if the fact that he was so bent of continuing to fight off these spiders was any indication. But, perhaps, he was mistaken?

"Havin' trouble running?"

Don't go stumbling now, you wouldn't want something to catch you!!
whenyouneedme: (109)

[personal profile] whenyouneedme 2019-10-26 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
What a dumb question! After all this grabbing and pulling! Geez! Kai huffed a bit. "Just surprised, geez--"

That 'geez' came out more like a hiss than Kai had planned on as he moved to fall into step with Tamaki. A spark of pain had sliced up his leg now that he had had a moment for everything to start to catch up with him. Maybe there had been a few mandibles involved with some of his kicks. Maybe.

Well. Better just keep moving then!
21kingpuddings: (I won't hesitate bitch)

[personal profile] 21kingpuddings 2019-10-28 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
That sure didn't sound or feel like a nice and easy stride Kai's falling in to there! That's the kind of thing that's going to make the whole 'keep moving' goal a little tricky.

So, Tamaki stops.

"Come on," he says, keeping turned away from Kai and squatting down just a bit. "I can carry you on my back."
whenyouneedme: (014)

[personal profile] whenyouneedme 2019-10-29 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
The surprises just kept emerging. Kai came to a stop, giving Tamaki's back a dubious look. How had it come to this. How had the tide turned so quickly. Here he had been the ride not that long ago.

Now the ride was in front of him. Kai stared for a real long moment, brows furrowing. Honestly, he would have protested all of this much faster if it hadn't been for towing Reyson earlier. Now he was just sure that the heron would catch wind of this somehow and give him hell for being a hypocrite.

So.

"...Ffffine," he mumbled, begrudgingly hopping up to rest on Tamaki's back. "Let me down as soon as you're tired though, I don't want to slow you down more than this."
21kingpuddings: (Way to go Paul)

[personal profile] 21kingpuddings 2019-10-29 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Tamaki was fully prepared to shoot down any protests, so the fact that Kai relents with little actual fussing is definitely going to make this a nice, smooth trip.

He sort of takes a moment to assess this new position, and concludes that this definitely feels doable. Just as long as they don't run into too many unexpected ambushes from these weird invaders, Tamaki should be able to give him a lift all the way to the cafes. Nice!

"Don't worry." Securing his hold on Kai, he stands back up. "I've got loads of stamina left." No sweat.

"You good?" One last check before he takes off running - at least you're getting some kind of warning this time, Kai.
whenyouneedme: toniii (102)

[personal profile] whenyouneedme 2019-10-30 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
This was weird.

"Yeah," Kai said, appreciative of the heads up this time. It wasn't as much of a surprise when they took off, even if it was still Really Weird. He wasn't quite sure what to do with anything, so he let his hands settle over Tamaki's shoulders as he kept a look out for more of their unsavory friends.

"... Thanks."
21kingpuddings: (Why's it called a 'Drive Thru')

[personal profile] 21kingpuddings 2019-11-01 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
How the tables turn, huh?

"Don't worry about it," it's no big deal for him, honestly. "Better to get somewhere safe now rather than after you pass out, right?"

Yeah! That's right! You looked like you were in that bad of shape!!

"Think of it like an opportunity to rest up a little bit."
whenyouneedme: toniii (078)

[personal profile] whenyouneedme 2019-11-02 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"Wasn't gonna pass out," mumbled the boy that was probably definitely going to pass out. He sighed.

"But I guess. Sure. Yeah. Resting up."
21kingpuddings: (There's a bee?!)

[personal profile] 21kingpuddings 2019-11-08 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
Take a breather, Kai. You deserve at least one entire break through all of this.

He'll let the conversation also take a rest at that, focusing instead of figuring out the shortest path to the cafes while also avoiding the largest amount of spiders. He could maybe fend off a few attackers were he on his own, but having his arms literally full with helping hold someone else up kind of takes that ability away. That's fine! This is Fine! He's just gonna have to be extra careful!!

One or two of them could easily be booted away without him breaking stride or losing his balance, so at least a few stray spiders here and there won't be an issue, at least. Which thankfully works out well enough, as the herds of critters scurrying around and attacking people seem to be somewhat thinning out the farther they go.

"Should just be anotehr minute or two. Holdin' up okay?"
whenyouneedme: (124)

[personal profile] whenyouneedme 2019-11-08 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It seemed that being forced to stop moving meant more things were allowed to finally catch up with him besides the aches of his various ailments. Fatigue had also draped itself across his shoulders, pointing out just how weary he really might have been. Huh. That was really annoying! How dare his body do this, even if he'd been pushing it so hard. A betrayal of the highest degree, for sure.

Well. The least he could do then was make sure he had Tamaki's back in a figurative sense as well. Here and there he would crane his neck to make sure there weren't any uninvited tagalongs behind them. Here and there there'd be a sign of one, but they seemed like they had other things to distract them. Good.

"Huh. Yeah, s'fine. I should be asking you that."
21kingpuddings: (Way to go Paul)

[personal profile] 21kingpuddings 2019-11-15 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
It's amazing the kinds of things that adrenaline will let you get by on, huh? Tamaki's probably leaning a little more heavily on the rush of everything than he realizes, but that has yet to catch up to him just yet! It definitely helps that he's in nowhere near as bad a shape as Kai is, too.

"Don't worry, 'm still good."

Cafe spotted! Beeline to the door made!
whenyouneedme: (009)

[personal profile] whenyouneedme 2019-11-17 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
The doors.... politely opened, beckoned by their movement.

Ah. Hm. Might wanna go a lot deeper into the cafe then. Maybe back there, behind those decorative shelves? Things looked a little scuffled, but it was quiet. Perhaps it really would make a good place to catch their breath.

Kai gave Tamaki's shoulder a weak pat. "Okay, okay, that's far enough."
21kingpuddings: (All these ghosts)

[personal profile] 21kingpuddings 2019-11-24 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah? Well, it sure does seem quiet enough in here for this to be the end of the line.

"You sure you're good?"

Kai looked like he had been in a pretty rough state, after all. Still, Tamaki takes the moment to slow down and give Kai the opportunity to get down.
