Kaito and Kyoko had planned. They'd plotted. They'd formed a pact! They'd perfected recipes and toiled away preparing feasts and gifts in secret, and now the promised hour of the promised day had arrived.
It was time to put this kidnapping into motion.
Even as she put the last carrot flowers into place, Kyoko was on high alert for the sounds of a certain birthday boy approaching--like those footsteps falling softly out in the hall. Glancing urgently over at her partner in crime, she hissed, "Kaito! The target! Intercept!!"

These are given a similarly careful and awed treatment, though that is interrupted pretty quickly after Shinji gets a really good look, and puts together how much very hard work was surely put into these gifts. Even if they had just been purchased items with embellishments added to them, that would have been a lot. But fully hand-made items, remembering Kai's comments about her cute faces while making both the meal and 'other things'...
"Give me a second," he says, putting the gifts down so that he can put his palm over his eyes. Nobody's gotta see that sting spilling over into actual tears, even if the break in his voice might be a giveaway.

"It's not... that much..." "Caught between fluster and worry, she reached across the blanket towards him--but then stopped before she reached him, sending Kaito a helpless look. Probably he should? be the one to? do something here?

He met Kyoko's look with that little smile, giving a nod towards Shinji. It was fine, get over here and give the boy a hug or something. Your beautiful thoughtfulness did this. "They turned out amazing, Kyoko."

A moment is really all he needs, giving him enough time to take a steadying breath and let that hand wipe away that teariness. There, nothing to make anyone worry over, he is pulling himself together.
"Mm," he nods in agreement with Kai's assessment - they're amazing! Good job, Kyoko!! Give hom just another moment to string together some words of his own. "They're incredible. Thank you, so much."

Dropping her hand back into her lap, she folded it up with the other and looked down it, cheeks pink. "I was gonna make you a sun hat too," she mumbled, "but it was my first time, so it came out kinda unacceptable."
