♥ February (Nalom) Event Log

February (Nalom) Event Log
Now that Nalom has begun, Rawna's power is beginning to wane and the inhabitants of Aellyn's last city know that Ainea's time is approaching. The winter months are beginning to warm again, although that doesn't mean the snow is completely gone just yet. With the residents beginning to mix their iridescent adornments and decorations with those of pink and purple, the atmosphere of Havenwell is becoming a little less apathetic and little more loving. Last year, the people celebrated a Happy Nalom with odd new customs, and after a year they've decided to try again with something new. While Rawna's priests are just as apathetic as always, the rest of the city is getting into the mood and it seems that their digitally warm hearts are heating up the city because...
❥ PROMPT I: Cuddle Cub Huddle!

Last year in Nalom, people might remember how a certain marshmallow shaped robot was seen waddling around the city doling out those good, good hugs. They may be looking for him again, but the researchers and entrepreneurs who were responsible for him last year have decided to try a new tactic. Having a single robot just won't cut it anymore now that so many new people have arrived and so much has changed! Thus, they've decided to introduce the (hopefully) hottest new craze in robotic companionship: Cuddle Cubs!
These adorable knee-height fuzzy bears are the newest creation to hit Havenwell's streets, and the creators are hoping this trial run of their tech will net them a lot of Dora with the merchandising possibilities-- I mean, help the world. Yeah that's it.. They travel in packs, pairs, trios, or singles, and love love LOVE to give hugs. Each Cuddle Cub comes with its own (trademarked) Cuddle Mark on their big fluffy tummy that glows with a soft, warming light when they hug someone. With so many people around, the Cubs have their work cut out for them and so these cuddly little bears have decided that the only way to get to everyone is to go absolutely turbo.
When they spot a good target for affection, the Cuddle Cubs will rush them like NFL linebackers while squeaking, "Cuddle Cub Huddle!!" and tackle or dogpile them to ensure they get the best, fluffiest hugs. Thankfully, these little creatures don't weigh very much and so the most damage you'll take is to your heart as they melt it with their cuteness. Once the cuddle is over, however, people might find they have some strange feelings to contend with based on what Mark their bear had...

Thankfully, these little creatures don't weigh very much and so the most damage you'll take is to your heart as they melt it with their cuteness. Once the cuddle is over, however, people might find they have some strange feelings to contend with based on what Mark their bear had...
- A Rainbow Heart: When the rainbow heart bears hug you, a matching rainbow heart will appear either on your hand or your cheek. With this mark on you, you'll be overcome with the urge to confess something to whomever is close-by. This urge can be fought off with enough willpower, but as the month drags on the mark will grow larger and larger and the urge will get stronger and stronger until you finally get something off your chest (or the month ends). The moment you confess, the mark disappears and so does the feeling. What can you confess? Well, anything really! Do you have a secret you need to release into the wild? Someone you love that you've been avoiding telling? Are you just hungry and really craving some crazy topping pizza (cinnamon apple is a legit creation, I swear!)? Your confession can range from your current regular ol' feelings to your deepest darkest secret. That's up to you!
- A Fluffy Pink Cloud: When a pink cloud bear hugs you, a matching pink cloud mark will appear on your hand or your cheek. With this mark on you, you'll be overcome with the urge to cuddle someone. This urge can be fought off with enough willpower, but as the month drags on the mark will grow larger and larger and the urge will get stronger and stronger until you finally give in and pay the cuddle forward (or the month ends). The moment you give someone a great big cuddle fest, the mark disappears and so does the feeling. Whomever you cuddle does not inherit your mark. How long do you need to cuddle someone to get the mark to disappear varies by person. You can, of course, resist the urge and go into hermit mode to avoid the mark's influence, but why be such a Scrooge? It's Cuddle Time!
- A Pair of Blue Mittens: When the blue mitten bears hug you, a matching pair of blue mittens will appear either on your hand or your cheek - and a secondary unique personal mark will show up somewhere else on your body. With these marks on you, you'll be overcome with the urge to complete a personal mission. This urge can be fought off with enough willpower, but as the month drags on the marks will grow larger and larger and the urge will get stronger and stronger until you finally finish your mission (or the month ends). The moment you finish it, the marks disappear and so does the feeling. Your secondary unique mark can be anywhere on your body, but it will be visible regardless of whether it's covered by clothing, projecting itself on top of whatever is covering it. The marks seem to correspond (sometimes loosely) to what your mission is - and what are they? That's up to you, the player! Your character's mission can be as simple as hugging a stranger they don't know to as complex as throwing someone who looks a little down a very merry un-birthday party to cheer them up. The possibilities are on these endless, but if you have a question if your 'mission' would be allowed, please ask a mod on the Questions thread down below.
❥ PROMPT II: Sweet Rain is Made of This

The environmental issues that were affecting Havenwell in Lasra seem to be continuing into Nalom. The localized snow storms are subsiding, thankfully, but in their place is a stranger and much stickier predicament. Throughout the month, the rain and snow that falls in the city isn't composed of water but of chocolate. That's right, actual chocolate. Whether it's chocolate rain or chocolate snow, the edible treat is raining from the sky as naturally as anything. The natives are baffled by this phenomenon and the researchers are scrambling to collect samples and try to repair the environmental controls. Whatever has caused this issue, it doesn't seem to be mechanical however, and so they'll be asking everyone to collect and submit samples from all over the city. Of course, you could just eat it instead. It's actually quite delicious. You may also want to enlist some help, however, because the clean-up on chocolate coating your house, garden, or you is...difficult to say the least.
❥ PROMPT III: RepliRepliRepli-Complications

The weather isn't the only thing that's broken. The replicators in the homes and other areas of the city seem to be on the fritz as well. Sometimes the replicators simply refuse to function at all, with no amount of cajoling, repairing, begging, or percussive maintenance making a difference. Sometimes they will give you a meal that you didn't ask for at random times of the day with someone else's name stamped across the top of it. Other times, the meal you requested will come out in pairs. Requested a plate of spaghetti? Well, now you have two. Some people may be lacking food as their replicators are refusing to work, so pair up, help one another and hope that the city natives can figure out what's causing all these system failures before someone brings marshmallow pie for the seventeenth time to the community potluck.
This event will run from February 15th to February 28th. Click on each prompt's title to see the text. If you have any questions, feel free to direct them to the FAQ or to the Mod Question thread. You can also use the Havenwell Status page or the General Plotting Comment to give you other ideas for original prompts!
?! rainbows AND cuddles
But she was also getting pretty sick of living off chocolate for most of the day.
Judging the darkest dead of night to be the safest time for an excursion, this was when she would finally venture out. It had worked well enough yesterday and the day before--surely this would not be the night she would get caught guzzling water greedily over the kitchen sink.
no subject
Her luck was wearing thin though. Third time's the charm and all that, though in this case maybe it was a curse.
While she was going feral at the sink, in shuffled one late-night delivery boy. He was all wound up from a midnight collision with some bears, so a little wind-down drink would have been great. A Kyoko was fine too.
"...Oh! You're free, huh?"
no subject
"Kaito...."
If it had been Shinji, or really anyone else, this still would have been an undesirable situation, but to encounter this particular boy after days of resisting such a deep, desperate urge....
She tried to stop herself, to hold out a little longer. She did. But it was only one silent moment before the clunk of her cup landing in the sink sounded out. Swiftly but unsteadily she whirled around.
"Run--!" she tried to warn him, but already she was launching wildly across the kitchen.
no subject
Having her barreling towards him was unexpected. It took him a moment too long to realize what could have been happening, eyes going wide. There was only enough time to fling his arms up before the collision, ready to catch her.
"Whoa--!"
no subject
But it was too late for him to correct course even if he had wanted to; Kyoko crashed violently into his chest, arms flying up to lock around his shoulders. A cushion for his head if they happened to topple over? Whatever the case, he was trapped now.
"Unh--!!"
no subject
That possibility still wasn't entirely ruled out even as she slammed in to him. There was definitely a wobble and a sway, but this time he managed to keep them mostly upright as he spun around a bit to find his footing again. "Oof-- whoa, hey. Hey. It's okay, I've got ya." He'd wrapped those protective arms around her, looking around the kitchen for any potential source of these troubles (?).
"You okay?"
no subject
Holding him tight as she was, for a moment there was only a fierce wave of relief washing over her--yes, this, this was the correct course of action, good, perfect. But it quickly became apparent that one moment wasn't going to cut it. The hug tax had come to collect, and it was a steep one.
After a pause, a long sigh eased out of her. Defeated, Kyoko slumped against him, her head dipping down. "I told you... I told you to run, but that that means run away, you know...."
no subject
"Like I'm gonna run away from you," Kai said with a slight huff, revealing that he'd probably be absolute shit in any of those zombie situations. "Thought somethin' was over there." Didn't seem like there was though, and despite how fiercely she was holding on, she seemed... fine? Better than a moment ago, at least.
no subject
"I really tried to warn you... No, I tried to protect you! Now all that time keeping to my room was just a waste."
no subject
From what? From her? From... oh. From whatever this was, probably, now that he was realizing this was not a fight or flight response that was happening right here. This was very suspiciously hug shaped, huh. Kyoko didn't actually actively avoid a whole lot of things, but this sure was one of them. Shinji wasn't even here to make it easier for her.
"Oh," he said after a beat, softer. He gave her comforting little pats around her shoulders. "You know I don't mind helping."
no subject
no subject
"I'd rather it be me than an even worse accident," Kai said with a click of his tongue. "If we'd gotten it over with you wouldn't have had to lock yourself away."
no subject
But it wasn't possible to explain any of that, so she could only whine about the same old problems, as if that was all there was to it. "I had to try," she insisted. "If I start giving in all the time, it'll be like telling the gods it's fine to use me for whatever they want."
no subject
Kai knew why it bothered him so much, especially with the reminder Kaworu's departure had given him. Knowing didn't make him feel any less guilty for thinking it. The alarming part was that it was dancing right there on the tip of his tongue, and Kai had to actually bite his lip to keep it clamped down. What good would saying that do? Especially right now?
"I know," Kai sighed, holding her a little closer despite himself. "Don't want to give them the wrong idea. I just..." How to say this. Maybe: "Like seeing you around."
no subject
Brushing it off was probably the correct course of action, but when Kyoko opened her mouth to scoff or joke, she found she could only let out a very soft, "Oh."
There was another pause, before she ducked her head again. "It... was kinda lonely. I don't think I said it properly, but... I was really happy when you messaged me."
no subject
So he tried to ignore it, no matter how much her words encouraged the feeling. "I figured it'd make you happier than knocking down the door," Kai said with another chuckle. "I know this sucks, sorry. But.. I'm glad it was just this."
no subject
Didn't he? Had she made it clear to him? Cautiously, Kyoko turned her head to get a glimpse of his face.
no subject
Her mind wasn't going to change about wanting to do any of it. He understood that too.
"Doesn't mean you wanted it either."
no subject
Those questions were pushed aside by that somber tone and those very serious words. "That's... not it, either," she had to admit, close as the confession was skirting to a much more dangerous one.
"There are... lots and lots of things I want, but that doesn't make it okay for me to have them. I can't let myself go after them." A beat, and then, softer: "I'm greedy too, you know."
no subject
Every time he thought he has a grasp on how things were, he was immediately proven otherwise. This was treading swiftly into territory he bungled every single time. He pulled back, just enough to really look at her and her own festive cloud decorating her cheek. It was a bit faded but, hm. Not the important thing right now.
"I don't get you sometimes," he admitted. "I get not wanting to give in to godly demands but... Why shouldn't you get what you want sometimes, when people want to give them to you?"
no subject
No, she was getting distracted. Kaito was just talking about touching. Pursing her lips for a moment, she tried to find the words for her own rationale. "It... doesn't feel right, having money and world-saving all tied up in something... something that should be pure. If I'm holding someone... I don't want anything else tangled up in it." Cheeks flushed all over again, she had to avert her eyes; jeez, she'd explained all this to plenty of people plenty of times, but her voice had never been so small before.
"B-besides, if I go too easy on myself, I'll only get greedier and greedier, until I'm completely unreasonable."
no subject
Ever? Ever in the history of ever? This was an extremely valid question. The easy road had never been open for her, and her first instincts were to carry it all on her shoulders every time. Maybe that time she ran away with someone counted, but Kai couldn't imagine anything after that was much different from how she handled things here.
"Sure, getting stuff for getting close to people is weird but... If you want to hold hands with somebody because they're somebody you care about, then that's just something you want. The rest of it's just extra." He paused, shaking his head a bit. "That's just how I think about it, anyway. I'm not trying very hard to save anybody."
no subject
She had to pause, pulling in a soft breath; what was this bit of tightness in her throat? "I was working on it at home.... I almost had it figured out. But here, I don't... I don't know. I don't who 'Kyoko' is, here. All this time, I've dedicated myself to resisting, so now... if I compromise too much it's like..." She hated the rasp in her voice. "Like compromising myself."
Oh, there it was. She really was the most selfish sort of person there could be.
no subject
It was too hard to resist for long though, he couldn't ignore all that pain in that small voice. Kai shifted to hold her closer again, very carefully cradling her head as she hid against him. It had been the wrong move last time, but... it still felt right, even if it was just him being greedy this time.
She'd been so close to figuring things out for herself at home. It was all the more reason for her to be able to go, to stop being so lost here, and yet. And yet.
Kai bit his lip, desperately willing the thought to go away.
"I don't know," he ended up murmuring to her. "It feels like... we're all figuring out new versions of ourselves, here. You, me, Shinji. We can all be who we want to be, or who we think we want to be. I don't know if that's being compromising or just... being true to ourselves. Feeling things out. It's weird."
He shook his head a little. "I don't think there's anything wrong with following the path that feels right. For what it's worth, I haven't met a Kyoko I haven't liked."
no subject
But just this once, just for another moment, she couldn't help but lean into his embrace. Was that the effect of the cloud that hadn't faded from her cheek, or just her greed, plain and simple? Whatever it was, she couldn't deny the solace of being tucked up against Kaito's frame, his voice so gentle in her ear.
"A path for me... I wonder if there really is one, here." She wasn't even sure she wanted to hope for one, still. Clearing her throat, she lifted her head to look at Kaito again, eyes soft. "I don't know if there's a Kyoko I can really like, here in this world... but if you've found even one, I'm glad for that."
