Last Surprise

♥ What: Akechi has just arrived and he's not happy. Royal spoilers bound to be inside.

IGNORENCE IS NOT ALWAYS BLISS;

[When they finally took down Maruki's Actualizations, he just expected to fade away into nothingness. A chance at life again due to more manipulation... Some would have taken the bait. Some would have happily accepted the fake reality as truth to turn away from the flaws that the real world had to offer.

Not Akechi.

He was through with people manipulating his life, even if Maruki genuinely meant the best out of it. He would happily accept death over becoming yet another person's puppet; for better or for worse. And yet he still found himself in a situation. This slab was uncomfortable and there was a robot waiting for him to really take it all in. It's not like Akechi could say what death was like, but this was sure as hell not it. Not even hiding his discontent, he spared no feelings when he declined their plea for his help.

Not that it really mattered. It's not like they were taking no for an answer. Was the Metaverse still around? Did they fail to deal with Maruki after all? No... Even Maruki wouldn't think of something this stupid. Now he was left all alone to find a place to stay. Some may say they were lucky to have free housing, but even if that was true, it didn't mean he had to be happy about it. He may as well figure out what the hell to do now while looking at his options.

Feel free to see him out and about, obviously new to this place by the way he's acting. He might even accidentally bump into you. If he does, he'll just turn to you and raise a gloved hand and a fake sympathetic smile.]

Sorry about that. I hope you're okay.

[He's far from happy or pleasant, but it doesn't stop him from slipping into his "pleasant boy" routine; no matter how tired he is right now.]

HOW'S IT HANGING?;

[It wasn't enough for the universe to send him to a place like this it seemed. No. The natives believed in "the buddy system". That may have been comforting for some new arrivals. It made sense considering how this place ran. As if this place couldn't get even worse for him, they've pulled in some sad sap to "be his buddy". Being shoved into them was awfully rude as well as unprofessional, but he doubts that these robots care about that. As much as he wanted to decline this as well, getting better information about this place was in his best interest.]

This sort of thing happen regularly...?

[Why is this person so close to him still? Just move away and give him some-- Wait. He can't move away. Were they stuck?! What the hell was wrong with this place.]

Any ideas?

[ Sephiroth strode down the street with all the confidence and surety of someone who knew where he was going. Indeed, he had several things to research today and was headed down to Verstael's Information Center to cross-reference a few of the things he had read on the shelves of the city's libraries. Sephiroth's primary focus was on the transference of energy, a topic he knew Verstael to have acquired information on.

It was something of a shock to be interrupted from his thoughts by several of the natives standing in front of him. And before Sephiroth could ask what they wanted, they had literally pressed him into service. It appeared they were aware of the fact he would have refused had he been given the choice.

However, they clearly didn't know him very well if they thought he was going to take this lying down. ]

You will undo what has been done.

[ Sephiroth remained still and expressionless but the voice that issued from his throat was both cold and commanding all at once. He paid no heed to the person now stuck to his right arm. It wasn't his fault, after all. Rather, his ire was reserved for those attempting to control him. ]

[It's been sometime after the first two collisions (from various means). At this point, he's sure they're just doing it now because it amuses them. Either way, he's been doing his best to avoid people more so than usual. Too bad the natives here are just that determined for him to "make friends".]

Oh for god sakes...

[Looking to who he was stuck to now... Oh. Well, at the very least it was someone he sort of knew. And it wasn't someone who was overly cheerful.]

You heard the man. [He couldn't have said it better himself.]

[ The natives weren't very expressive by very virtue of their design but they made their ignorance and fear obvious through the universal medium of body language. The bravest of the bunch blathered on about the 'will of the gods' for a moment before his (her?) more sensible peers grabbed him by the arm and began dragging him away. The one that remained apologized profusely and explained that it would only be for a short duration. It was this which stayed Sephiroth's hand, because he knew by now both how Havenwell worked and how naive its citizens were. ]

Enough. I suggest you leave.

[ Indeed, they took Sephiroth at his word and all but fled before him. Only then did he gaze down at the man attached to him. Sephiroth spoke in a neutral tone as if nothing whatsoever had just happened. ]

I was on my way to the Information Center if you have no objections.

[This was all a mess, but at the very least this wasn't permanent and would wear off soon enough.]

None. I think that would be a beneficial stop for me as well. [That, and they're kind of stuck together, after all.]

[ Sephiroth inclines his head in acknowledgement and begins to head that way. Most people would probably attempt to play tour guide, but he is not most people and instead doesn't speak at all. At least, until they are much closer to their destination and he actually has something to say. ]

Is there a particular topic you intend to investigate today?

[A little bit of knowledge would have been preferable, but he could be stuck to worse people. Letting out a deep sigh to that.]

No, nothing in particular. If I have to be stuck in another warped reality then I'd rather be prepared for anything. I'm sure leaving is not an option and I don't have the means to fight anymore. For now.

[With the Metaverse gone and his Personas no longer with him, it wasn't like he could just call Loki or Robin Hood to assist him. Even without them though, he's hardly giving up. A plasma sword would be cool, but if he can find a sword and/or a gun in general here, that would be enough.

Was there a need for weaponry here though? Probably not on the surface, but Akechi didn't like the idea of having anything to lean back on.]

[ Sephiroth guided them inside and toward the library as he spoke. ]

There is a lot of general information here. Far more than you would expect.

[ Certainly much more than a mere tour could provide, and on a variety of topics. It was truly a well-informed space, and what had made him begin to respect Verstael in the first place. ]

Specialized topics as well.

[ Sephiroth selected a volume from the shelf and waited for his companion to indicate which area he would like to look at first. ]

A few more trips seem to be in order then. [Pulling out a random book and glancing at it for a moment.] Preferably not when I'm stuck, though.

[ Sephiroth perused his own selection while he waited for him to decide on a book. ]

Preferably.

[ Despite their physical attachment, he wasn't here to hold anyone's metaphorical hand. ]

Though I'm sure we'll see each other around.

[Nor would he want it. He would rather be alone, but that's not what this world wants from him or the others. Book in hand.]

More than likely. I don't know how big this place is, but I'll find out soon enough. There are too many unknowns right now.

[ Sephiroth guided them to the table and chairs. They would have to sit closer together than normal but there was nothing saying it couldn't still be comfortable. ]

Everything will be revealed in time.

[ He opened his book and appeared content to peruse it unless interrupted. ]

[It was something that was unavoidable, after all. Flipping open his own book with his free hand, he went about scanning the pages. Most people would feel the need to say something, but honestly, he was fine with this. Not that Sephiroth was annoying, but he wasn't much of a people person; Ironic when you're a famous detective back home schmoozing everyone.

A decent amount of time passed before he started to feel his arm loosen. Closing the book and setting down on the table in front of them, he attempted to move away. This wasn't going to-- It worked.]

Would you look at that? Sounds like they weren't lying.

[And now that they're free, he's going to scooch away to give them both space they now had.]

That was unpleasant but could have been worse.

[ Sephiroth didn't at all mind the silence. Time passed relatively quickly with him almost forgetting that Goro was there. It was only when he began moving that Sephiroth's gaze slid to him once more. ]

They seldom do.

[ Sephiroth appreciated the space even if he didn't make any outward showing of this fact. ]

However, I am glad for the short duration.

[ It had been spent doing something he intended to do anyway, but beyond that things could have grown uncomfortable. It wasn't that he minded Goro's company. It had actually been somewhat pleasant to sit there together. Better with a little space between them though. ]

What will you do now?

[It could have been much worse, that's for sure.]

Aside from avoiding people more than usual? [Oh look. A joke.] I'm not sure. There's plenty of things that I need to look into. If I'm going to be stuck here, then I'd rather make productive use of my time here.

First, I need answers.... And I guess to find a place to stay.

[ Those were more than reasonable goals. ]

That won't be an issue here. [ Meaning the center. A serious answer, because jokes? What are those? ] Nor will housing present one. The city provides that for free.

[ Sephiroth provided more information on The Marshes, which was where the majority of people lived. ]

Free housing, huh. That does make it easier. Not paying rent for a change is nice.

[Something that he's used to now. Thank god he made something off of being a detective and working with the police.]

I'll have to check those out first then. How is the housing here?

[ Sephiroth didn't know of any other way of life. His housing had always been provided for by ShinRa before coming here and this was no different. ]

Adequate.

[ There really was no other word for something that suited one's needs. ]

I am aware of the paid housing upgrade, but I see no need for it.

That's something I could think about later if there's a need. This will at least make finding a place to get by easier.

[He should really go and do that...]

I should probably be going. I appreciate the information.

[ Sephiroth inclined his head in acknowledgement. He intended to stay for a while longer before moving on to other things. Despite the "gods'" interference, it hadn't been a bad experience. He attributed that to Goro being a reasonable person compared to so many others to whom he could have gotten stuck. ]
