Affurgato Mingle: July edition

Regulars of Affurgato might notice things have spiced up a little bit in the last several days; the decor is a little brighter, the staff more upbeat, and the food, while tasty as ever, is a little different. The restaurant is advertising a summer menu of slow-cooked BBQ sliders, sweet potato fries with honey butter dip, grilled pineapple and watermelon slices, and warm peach cobbler with ice cream. The prices are slightly more premium than usual, but ooh, doesn't it all smell worth it? Newcomers might even get a discount, if the right elf twin gets their bill. But how do you know which one's the right twin? ...Yeah, good luck with that.

For this week, the menu will include two curious additions as well: a Thanksgiving-esque meal including fresh slabs of turkey and stuffing, flavoured with bacon grease, and a slice of rainbow layer cake. The cats are very attentive, especially to recognizably good tippers, and there's a display sign outside the door with a doodle of a binicorn in flashy sunglasses shouting the words "ONE YEAR MORE, NERDS", which might be weird to those who know that Affurgato opened about six months ago. Ah, well.

Also noteworthy is the fact that an actual, tangible magical bicicorn will be running around for the first 45 minutes of every daily shift that the restaurant is open, trying to scoop people up onto his back and deposit them in front of the shop. You're here now, so you might as well get a meal, right? Don't question it.

Come one, come all! Enjoy some good food and the company of your neighbours, maybe visit the elves and see what's up.

[ Kova knows this customer well enough to greet him proper with a soft 'mrow', sniffing his hand and giving him a little lick, and waiting for a few proper scritches in return.

It's a little busier than usual, all hands are certainly on deck here, but only a few moments will pass before Honerva makes her way to greet him. ]

Greetings. I hope you weren't waiting long.

[Noctis looks up, but he doesn't stand, content to give Kova a healthy dose of well-deserved scritches first.]

Not long, nah. Anyway, Kova's been taking care of me.

[Like a good, hard-working fluff, yes he is~]

I can see that. He seems quite comfortable with you.

[ Kova further demonstrates this, indulging in the scritches. ]

But you're welcome to find a more comfortable spot to sit in. The couches are available. Will anyone be joining you?

Nah, just me today. Though maybe I'll ping Prompto and ask if he wants to swing by.

[Enjoy that very useful definish-maybe.]

Well, perhaps you should give it some consideration. He's missing out on some quality photo opportunities.

[ She smiles, one hand indicating all of the extra that's gone into the party-like atmosphere. ]

Yeah, I wondered about that. Figured I'd ask if it was some kind of private party, but the sign didn't make it look that way. What's going on?

[Now please pardon his rudeness as he pulls out his communicator to one-hand text Prompto.]

[ Good boy, you contact Prompto. She doesn't seem ruffled by his immediate action to do so. ]

Perhaps the sentiments might be more private, but what was the impression the sign gave you?

Looked like an anniversary or something.

[It's been about a year since the arrival of plenty of people, right? So maybe that.]

I suppose it happens to be that as well. [ She had said it covered multiple purposes after all. Of course where the significance was... ]

But more of the point is to celebrate the two very specific people who happen to own this place.

Oh, like a birthday? Happy birthday to them, then.

[What a weird way to phrase it.]

Indeed.

[ Weird or vague it might be, or just elf things. She seems pleased with his answer, anyway. ]

It's their way, so don't question that too much. Would you like anything to start with?

[ To drink or snack on, while waiting for Prompto. ]

Sure.

[He fires off a couple of orders - including a dessert and a sweet drink, because of course - and just goes ahead and picks Kova up, tucking the cat against his chest so he can scratch at his ears without having to crouch on his knees like that.]

[ She appreciates that Noct knows right away what he wants, makes it all the more easier to set up the order and inform the kitchen.

Kova is agreeable to being lifted, making a deep contented rumble as he rests in his arms. ]

It shouldn't take too long, though I can tell Kova will have you covered until it's ready. He'll be glad to see Prompto, too.

Yeah, I bet he would. He loves animals too.

[Probably why their house is practically a zoo at this point. Either way, he'll carry Kova with him to the nearest seat, letting the cat settle comfortably in his lap while he continues the pets and pampering.]

I could tell. Kova has been fond of him for some time now. They had time to get to know each other before we arrived in this world.

[ Not that she's certain of how much Prompto may or may not have said about such things. ]

Right, you guys were in the same other world together. Er, in space.

[He said at least that much!]

...Can you tell me anything about it? I try not to bug him too much, but sometimes I wonder.

That is correct. He was one of the first people I'd met there.

[ It's said fondly; she was a very different person at the time and couldn't appreciate the meeting for what it had been, but he'd treated her kindly from the start. ]

I could try. I'll admit, I was very preoccupied during most of my time there, but that shouldn't impact my answers too much. What were you curious about?

I don't know... anything, I guess. What life was like there, what you did to get out, was he... okay?

[He glances down, scratching distractedly at Kova's ear.]

Prompto's the kind of guy who'd pretend everything's fine when it isn't, if he felt like he had good reason to. I just wanna do right by him, but I don't know what to ask, either.

That sounds like him. He smiles a lot, even when he's not really smiling. I think there must have been others from your world present for a time, but when I'd arrived many had gone, and he must have been missing you terribly for that.

[ She shakes her head. Sunshine boy... but she'd seen him down in the dumps too. ]

Life wasn't... too different from how it seems here. There were more opportunities for different scenery, some dangerous and some not, with various forms of intrusion from our hosts and our efforts to work against them. He decided to leave our ship to join others he was closer to, though he would come back often enough to visit me. I'm certain Kova was more of the draw there.

[ The cat makes a noise at his name, before resuming his cuddle with Noctis. ]

By the end of it all we'd all had chances to decide where we wanted to go... we were able to confront the Atroma and help restore it to it's intended purpose. Though I believe he had been whisked away sooner... I hadn't expected to see him drawn to this place as well.

Right... he said he'd been away from home for a long time. And he showed up here with Kaname.

[Now she, too, has vanished, possibly never to be seen again. Having seen enough people come and go by now, he's felt the sting himself; it must've been terrible to watch it happen for so long. It hasn't even been a year for him, and already there's been such hardship.]

We both showed up in this world around the same time, but it is certainly common knowledge that the beings of this world do not draw others here in any linear sort of way.

[ She at least could be grateful for her particular time as much as she dreaded it altering. ]

... I am glad that he is here though, and that he does remember that time, even if it was a lot to experience. He was very good to me. Though, I think it must embarrass him now whenever I give him the praise he deserves.

...Yeah.

[He'd certainly been grateful for Prompto's presence plenty of times since his arrival, for a myriad of reasons. And he's... not especially eager for either of them to go back, knowing what's coming.

Well, until then he'll just have to do his best to give his loved ones what they've more than earned.]

It might embarrass him, but he likes it anyway. Keep it up.

He always seems... surprised by it, but I have no intention of stopping.

[ Not now that he's unlocked that level of praising from her, anyway. Especially because it surprises him. A little too relatable. Speaking of praise, though-- ]

Oh... and he allowed me to see that drawing you had made for him. It seemed very fitting, and he seemed quite happy about that.

Oh- the tattoo? Yeah. [Now he's the one a little embarrassed, scuffing a hand through his hair.] I'm just glad it worked out okay. He's stuck with it now, so...

[At least he likes chocobos.]

It was a choice, and you have given him quite the gift. He feels comfortable to show that arm freely now.

[ Sorry Noctis, the praise will continue. ]

He even shared the image and story of the little one that inspired it.
