[Could Magolor have done this over the network? Of course. Maybe people would have appreciated that more. But that's not how he chooses to go about this: over the network, he'll be easier to ignore, and that's no good. And over the network, he can't give anyone any earnest handshakes or touches on the shoulder to contribute to his bank account, I mean, the wellbeing of this planet! Praise Diacht!

So instead of ringing up the populace to ask for their input, he's doing this old-school.

Upon leaving their houses today, anytime between midmorning and late afternoon, any character is subject to being hunted down and approached by a perky little hovering alien with a clipboard and pen in his hands. He's pretty fast in waving people down, and pretty relentless:]

Helloooooo~! Won't you spare me just a moment? I promise not to keep you! You'll be glad you did. This is for the good of our community, and I can't do it without your help!

[He at least sounds and looks very earnest about this, like a bright-eyed canvasser on their first day on the streets.

Or maybe it's something else. Maybe you've seen him lurking out there for hours now and want to give him an earful, or like, a snack or something, which would be much appreciated. Maybe you have some bone to pick with him. The world is your oyster! He sure is making himself obnoxiously visible.]

[The sad reality of dealing with Magolor.

He flips to one of the earlier, written-on pages of his notebook to skim it, though he largely knows what it says already, because as it turns out many people have the same complaints.]

Well, food, of course. That's top on my list too! Medical care's a big one. A lot of people worried about not enough nature around to keep them happy. But you don't have to come up with something totally unique. Every vote for "fix our food," or whatever else you care about, is another voice I want them to hear!

[He nods, watching this magical flipping action while they are still holding hands because Magolor is just that talented.]

Sounds like everyone’s hit most of the important stuff then. [SHRUG.] You can just add me to those votes.

[He has thumbs! Even fingers! It is a hassle, though, and he doesn't bother to pull his hand away to write down anything new either if Kai's only seconding the others.]

Will do! That's it? No desire to vent, huh?

Can’t say I really care.

[He shrugs again, this one even more half-hearted than the other. He wants to go back to where he left off, probably a lot like everyone else. That’s not something a survey is going to fix.]

I’m not paying anyone rent, and the food eventually works out. [It was like prison, but with less getting his shit kicked in! Wow!] It’s not the worst deal I’ve had.

[Even Magolor sags a little at this display of apathy, ears lowering. Note to self, add mental health services to his list once he's got his hands back and also isn't in Kai's line of sight anymore.]

I guess we've all got different standards. I can sympathize some. This isn't the worst place I've lived either! But that doesn't mean I don't want to try and make it better for all of us. So thanks for bearing with me anyway!

[He perks back up enough for a smile and a comforting handsqueeze. Or something. Levels of comfort may vary from person to person.]

[What are standards. What is comfort. It was definitely a handsqueeze though! For whatever Magolor meant it to mean!]

Well, hopefully you get something for your efforts. It’s a good idea.

[They're all fumbling through this brave new world of comforting gestures together. Magolor finally lets go after that, though, so he can actually write again if he needs to.]

Don't worry, I'm not the type to give up easily. And right now, I'm trusting our hosts want to be cooperative, too. We'll see how that goes! I have no reason to think otherwise just yet.

Seems true enough. I’m sure they’ve already got the idea that we’re probably better at helping if we’re comfortable.

[Assuming everything else that they knew was legit, at least.]

They seem like they're doing their best! So much so that it's a little painful to watch sometimes!

[He has a sudden montage flashback to the awkward dancing robots of the ribbon party, who seemed embarrassingly excited to try and fit in with their new organic friends. The social awkwardness is off the charts with these guys.]

[When was even the last time their new robofriends had experienced anyone knew? No wonder they were so awkward sometimes.]

[There’s a beat where it’s Kai’s turn to not know how to flex his social muscles. Uh. What do.]

Oh, you don't need to thank me . . . I'll accept it, though. I'm not immune to gratitude! I just want to see everyone as happy as possible here, and we'll all benefit from this. You, me, our friends, and our hosts!

[Like he's not eating up this thanks, however humble his response is. He absolutely is, puffing up with pride.]

[What part of that response is humble. It might have started that way, but it went on just a little too long. Kai clicked his tongue, reaching down to pat Magolor on the top of his gachapon head. Or kinda ruffle his hood? Kinda squish him. It was all of these things.]

Alright, alright, that’s laying it on a little thick, bud.

[He is doing his very best, or something. Something. As always, he's briefly surprised by having contact initiated with him instead of the other way around, and blinks up with a frank sort of expression before sliding easily back into a smile.

. . . It had been kind of nice, though. What's up with that?]

Awww, you don't believe me? I meant every word of that! You're too suspicious. I'll take your thanks, anyway.
