♥ February (Nalom) Event Log

February Event Log
It's the last month devoted to Rawna, and winter is winding down. You'd think that this would matter to them, but none of the priests of Rawna seem to care at all. If asked, they will simply explain that they are "fasting"... not for food, or entertainment, but their capacity to care. The 3rd and final month of the dragonlord emphasizes the apathy aspect of the god's alignment, and followers are encouraged to just chill and not let life bother them for a while.
This doesn't seem to have stopped the rest of the community, however. Seems they've caught wind of there being a particular fluffy holiday taking place in the second month of the year on certain worlds and have decided to adopt it for themselves as something of a test drive. Nalom is usually so boring, after all! And if it helps their unfortunate trapped visitors feel a little more at home, well, they're happy to give back if they can. Thus, there are fresh displays in local businesses, custom shops, and pop-up cafes, offering discounts and deals for people who shop or dine together. You are the only ones who can support the gods in these dark days, and you need a partner to do that! So this month they are celebrating YOU.
Happy Va... Valen... Saint's... happy Nalom!
❥ PROMPT I: They Call Him Lakemin, King Of Soft Hugs

Once a day, all through the city, there will be a distinct robot wandering through. It's large, looks almost like a marshmallow, and seems to be there just to hug your character. Isn't that sweet? If you find him in inclement weather, he'll happily keep you company, even keep you warm or dry if necessary! Really, though, you can find him anywhere. All hugs are sweet and soft, though those less… hug-inclined… may receive a surprise embrace instead. If you don't like it, he will be very apologetic! They're testing a new technology, you see. What technology, you might ask? Well, let's see how it goes first. Just enjoy the good squishes for now.
When you return home, there's a small weather-proof box by the door. Opening it, there's a small plush of this Marshmallow-bot with a name embroidered on it. Only problem is, it isn't your name. Whoops! Someone must have been in a rush to deliver these and put them in the wrong place. Time to find who this plush belongs to, maybe they'll have yours! Or maybe they can direct you to the right person. Either way, what is there to lose? Nothing, of course! There's just the strange compulsion to see to it that this plush get home and you pass on those warm, cozy, hugs that Marshmallow-bot gave you.

❥ PROMPT II: This is How You Valentine
The information that the residents have received about Valentine's Celebrations might be a little… iffy… or at the very least sporadic, but they're trying a few experiments to see if it'll help get people in the mood. The following changes can be discovered around town, with varying effects:
- Conversation hearts Found in display bowls at the counter of local businesses, characters who eat these candies find their vision becoming rose-tinted. Quite literally. Colors aren't erased by it but there's a definite effect as if they are seeing the world through some kind of film filter, the shade of which can vary depending on the person. Maybe you see different colors! Maybe you see some bizarre kind of Snapchat filter. Maybe you see dialogue appearing in text bubbles now. The effect can be alleviated/cured (at player's discretion) by leaning against someone for an extended amount of time, which is convenient, because the sudden shift in visuals can make you feel a little dizzy.
- Roses A few members of the community council are handing out flowers! These aren't naturally grown, of course, as with how delicate a process is it they don't want to jeopardize the botanical gardens by removing an excess of them. However, these are made out of synthetic silks but smell like real ones and have just as soft a feeling without any thorns! Isn't that nice of them?
- Wines and Fruit Juices What goes with cheesy compliments better than wine? These are found only in the temples, and with a priest always nearby to ensure no one is drinking the alcoholic drinks underage or becomes too inebriated to be safe. No matter how it looks or smells, these will taste just as your character likes and will always be the perfect temperature! Handy! But boy, after even a small glass, it sure does feel like cuddle weather, doesn't it? Don't worry though, it isn't anything that would make your character get too inappropriate or do anything outside their comfort zone. But boy, wouldn't it be nice to lay your head on someone for a bit?
- Chocolate truffles Good morning! Every residence will wake up at least one day with a small box of chocolate truffles in a box at their doorstep. Some are plain, some decorated, and the decorations range from simple white chocolate drizzle to fancy elaborate planets or galaxy speckles. No matter what the flavor, there's an urge to share them with someone. That's all! Go and spread that chocolatey delight! It's extra-satisfying to feed it to them yourself, for some reason...
When your character receives one, they're filled with the gentle, warm sensation of being in love but without falling hard. And they'll want to share it. People who share similar features to your CR, even if it's something subtle like hair color or a piece of clothing, will jump out as someone to share this flower with. This comes with the urge to express some unfortunately cheesy lines about the other person… and while they don't have to be romantic, even the most platonic of lame comments can get you in hot water. Hope the rose is worth it!
❥ PROMPT III: Kreative Kompetition

No matter what the month, the world still spins, and businesses run, which means that the VR Cafes have been working on new games. This time, the theme is friendly competition! The following games are now available at the local cafes:
- Kart Racing: Pick a kart and get out there! You'll be provided with everything you need, of course, since even virtual reality observes safety requirements. On the track, you'll be able to pick up comically large and squishy 'weapons' and obstacles. Nothing that will hurt but a cream pie to the face sure does make it hard to keep up! You can race against friends, strangers, or even find yourself in a whole grand prix.
- Kapture the Flag: You and your opponent are tasked with capturing the other's flag. No holds barred! You can move and hide your own flag, plant traps around it, even carry it around with you! Can you find a way to disguise it? That's an option! Whatever you do, once your opponent gets it, you'll receive a message alerting you that your flag has disappeared. Don't let them get it back to their base!
Once a game has concluded, win or lose, both players will be rewarded with coupons for a free meal for two at one of the local cafes around town. Matching up the coupons gets a bonus dessert! It's not necessary to match them, but why wouldn't you?
❥ PROMPT IV: Gentle Trembling of the Toes

In the last few days of the month, something begins to happen: a very gentle rumble reverberates throughout the city, an earthquake small enough to not cause any damage, but large enough to be felt. The timing of it is sporadic, but it happens once a day. The sensation will typically last for anywhere between 10-30 seconds before dissipating as if it never occurred at all.
Around town, characters may also notice something curious- each time one of those tremors occur, many of the robotic residents in town will immediately stop, find a partner, and link arms while standing back to back with one another, clinking their heads together. They stand that way for a while, even after the tremors subside, until at last they say their farewells and move on. If asked, rather than alarmed, the town natives are tentatively optimistic, even excited in some cases: the quakes are a message, a gentle warning, but of what they don't yet know. It's been so long since a public declaration from their deities was made, due to their diminished presence in the world and the decline of the planet. The priests are especially eager, bustling about in their temples trying to prepare for whatever might happen, but no one seems to know exactly what, or when, the next step will occur. The doors exiting out of town are being reinforced, and the guards have doubled up their patrols and will be especially vigilant about explorers going too close to the walls around the city. Most people at least know this much: do as they do, when the tremors hit, and you'll understand a little better.
Characters that link up for long enough during one of the quakes can receive one of following messages in their heads:
1) "Change is coming." this message is passive, almost like a greeting.
2) "We thank you for all you have done." this message is softer, almost apologetic.
3) "We shall do all we can to keep you safe." this message is gentle, almost parental in its affection.
4) "Share your bounty and your joy." this message is kind and encouraging, tugging you toward people you may not have met yet.
5) "Remember to keep the balance." this message is plaintive, but without urgency.
6) "Do not approach the walls." this message is LOUD, insistent, and the most frequently transmitted.
The voice that conveys these messages is a collective of multiple, speaking in synchronization but at inconsistent volumes. Multiple links (eg. different threads) can receive multiple messages, and characters do not have to hear the same message as their partner.
This occurrence is also ONGOING. The quakes will continue until it is announced in the near future when they end. Stay tuned!

It was amazing just how little anything happened when he just didn't think about it! Almost as if being aware of the problem just made the anxiety, and thus the problem, even worse! Huh. Golly.
Kai leaned in to gently bump shoulders with Shinji (and nothing happened!), eyeballing what delights the other boy might have had in his hands. "A snack might be nice."
no subject
"Did you figure out what was causing all of that static before?"
He can't help but be curious! As he asks, though, he will shift the goodies in his hands to make them more accessible to Kai's. Go ahead and grab yourself an onigiri, surprise (probably not surprise by now) filled with some tasty salmon, delicious. A well-deserved treat for shock-worn boys.
no subject
"Mm..." He reached over to pluck up one of those delightful onigiris, resting his head a bit on Shinji's shoulder as he did so. That was nice. "It's been kinda narrowed to either me realizing powers I never knew I had--" Unlikely. "--or some kind of... god thing. God gift? Or something." Which also seemed Unlikely, but more likely than just sleeping potential.
"Haven't been that zappy today though." Which could have been from the care free nature of wine. It could have also been from all the grounding exercises he was trying to do, like touching grounded objects or going barefoot when he could get away with it. (Like right now! There were his shoes.)
Gonna nom that onigiri. Nom... igiri.
no subject
Whatever the case for the diminished shocks, it really is nice to be able to do things like this again, and maybe, he thinks, at least some of this extra cozy behavior is a means to make up for how much touch they'd been missing, as much as this new drink may be also involved.
"I take it people don't normally have powers like this in your world?" He knows about the Big Anomaly, obviously, but this would be the first he's hearing of anything quite this... elemental.
no subject
"Mmm-mmm," he hummed around his tasty bite. Let's swallow that real quick. "Not that I'm aware of. Besides, I'm pretty sure I didn't kick it either." Not that experiencing a death was the only thing that could have been a trigger, but it was a familiar enough catalyst for him.
He took a tinier bite, humming around that one too. "S'gooood~"
no subject
"Hmm." Very mysterious. But he's glad to see it's starting to become more manageable, if it isn't something that's about to go away any time soon. He really does wish he could offer a little more practical help in this matter, but, alas, super powers and zappy affinities are outside of his wheelhouse. At least he can offer snacks and a nice, comfortable shoulder to rest on now, though. "If it is supposed to be a gift, hopefully you'll be able to get a good handle on it soon."
With the threat of shocks as small as it seems to be, Shinji takes the opportunity to, very lightly, let his head rest against Kai's as he picks up one of those rice balls for himself. "There's dessert, too."
Just so you know what's up with that extra box he's brought along!
no subject
He'd listen, but only because he was getting indulged so much. These were very nice snacks, and a very comfortable shoulder, and boy did he ever just a content kind of almost-drowsy. Maybe he was done with the wine, he thought. Maybe it'd be awful nice if they could curl up and maybe get his hair pet. Yeah. Nice.
"Hope so. I keep tryin'." Really hard even. But even with as unzappy as he was managing right then, it didn't stop the faint buzz as Shinji dipped his head against Kai's. Nothing to worry about just yet, unless Shinji was extremely opposed to frizzy hair.
He did see that box, but huh! "Dessert too?" He echoed, curious. "Now I'm real spoiled."
no subject
"You've been having a rough time, you deserve to get a little spoiled."
He says it without giving it much thought, which is... a bit embarrassing, but he does mean it. He saw the video Kai sent up on the network, what with the lighting snafu, and who knows what other messes his zappiness may have made. So, yeah, go ahead and sink into some indulgences when you can, there won't be any judgement from Shinji.
no subject
"Have a rough few days, get to be a little spoiled... I probably owe you some treats then, huh?"
no subject
?
???
He does not follow.
"I don't see why you would?" All things considered, everything's been going comparatively smoothly on his end. "Getting to spend time with you feels like plenty of a treat."
Probably more than he really deserves, but! Definitely not something that needs to have any additional spoiling piled on top of it, at any rate.
no subject
"Hmmm," was Kai's only response for a moment. If spending time was him was a treat, then that was the answer wasn't it? So Kai didn't bother explaining that Shinji had had some rough points and he hadn't gotten spoiled. Might as well just start making up for it anyway.
"That works then," he murmured eventually. "Missed this."
You know. This.
no subject
Shinji's pretty certain that he'd have plenty of room to back himself up if Kai pressed the issue - any rough spots were currently cemented in the past, so he'd like to refrain from going back for them as much as he reasonably can. And, by his own logic, most of the ones here had been capped off with some Quality Time Together anyway, so it all works out. You see, he's already very spoiled thanks to you, Kai, there's no reason to go any further out of your way!
"Yeah?" Is that so? He'd had a feeling that may have been the case, but it's kind of nice to have it confirmed, even if the circumstances for it are... not the best. He lets himself come to a slightly heavier rest against Kai, cheek sinking a bit further into that soft, golden hair as he drops his voice a little. "Me too." A gentle, quiet admission, just for Kai.
no subject
"Mhmm." He liked it, either way. For once he'd just bask in that for a little while. Who knew that getting so used to touch like this meant the absence of it was that much more noticeable. Had he been a bit more clear-headed, he might have been able to look at what it could have meant to miss something like this so much. Since that wasn't the case: indulgences only.
If there were any lingering desires to see Kai shove chocolate in his mouth, reminders were going to have to be in order. This pupper was content.
no subject
Shinji doesn't quite have the same excuse, nobody's offered him any of the drinks, nor has he sought them out. Even so, there's a nice, pleasant kind of feeling that getting this cozy brings with it. It's easy enough to not let himself overthink it too much when the position they're in is mostly by Kai's design, but his mind is also preoccupied with just... soaking in how nice it really is. Besides being sure that he wouldn't feel the same if it were pretty much anyone else, there's not much room for thinking too hard about why that might be.
Right now, all he really wants is it make sure Kai's taken care of. That's what's important.
Give him a moment to polish off his own snack, though, so that he can free up his hand in order to open up that choco box and reveal the starry-speckled truffles waiting inside.
"Did you want some...?"
no subject
"Oh, yeah. Those are real nice looking? Did you do those??"
He hadn't encountered this particular delivery just yet, so the obvious conclusion was that Shinji had bustled around making really cute chocolates for some reason.
no subject
"Oh, no, I've never tried to do anything like this before." If he did take a stab at chocolate making, it probably wouldn't look so polished. But, now he has to wonder... would he be able to? With what the replicators can make? Hm. "I think the robots cooked these ones up."
You'll notice that there's a spot in that box where one of them has already been taken and, presumably, tested out. No way was he planning on going around and sharing without checking to see if any particularly weird shenanigans were afoot with these treats! Another one is lifted out, and held up toward Kai. Have at it, friend.
no subject
With onigiri in one hand and his other arm curled around Shinji's back, there was only one course of action for this to be completely honest. "Don't mind if I do." Kai shifted a little, just enough to nom that choco right out of Shinji's fingers.
Mmm.
no subject
It's a surprise this time round, but only a small one. Something about it feels... kind of appropriate? Somehow. Something about the chocolates, maybe? Maybe that was the intended side-effect?
He kind of doesn't want to think about it too deeply, either way, not right now. Between the return of the extreme coziness and Kai's own relaxed presence, overthinking something as ultimately as harmless as this seems pretty pointless. Let's just enjoy these treats.
"Not bad, right?"
no subject
Enough so that a sunny, chocolate-smudged smile lit up his face shortly after.
"Mm, yeah! That was pretty good."
no subject
"Well, you're welcome to have as many as you like."
It's a little hard to get the full scope of that smile from where he's resting, but enough of that brightness shines through for him to take a good guess about the true radiance being put on display here. It hits him in a similar way that hearing Kai laugh a number of months ago had, though without the surprise of catching him completely off guard this time around. A little less shocked, and a little more charmed, all while still getting the impression that this was as much of a treat for him as the chocolate had been for Kai.
See? He's plenty spoiled already.
no subject
But Ah, spoiled by all these things that Kai didn't even know were significant in any way. Did it count if Kai didn't know these resources were considered valuable? What if he didn't even know he was providing so much satisfaction? Cause boy howdy he sure Did Not.
(He had his own collection of tiny smiles going though, so the answer was a bit easier than it seemed.)
At least his ignorance wasn't diminishing any of it for Shinji's current enjoyment though. "Maybe one more?"
no subject
Even if Kai, or anyone else for that matter, couldn't tell how rare and meaningful those little gestures are, Shinji will at least continue to treasure them deeply. Even if he feels like he may not deserve anything quite this valuable, he's not about to let these moments go to waste.
"Of course."
Right now? Because he's retrieving another one right away to present to Kai. Whenever you're ready for it...!
no subject
So ready.
no subject
the readiest
because if you aren't going to be chomping that truffle out of his fingers again this time, like Shinji's actually expecting, then he's just gonna have to
pop it
right in Kai's mouth.
no subject
Your reward was an even dopier grin sent right in your direction! Just! For! You!
