That was all vague enough that Kai didn't feel the most convinced. Though it wasn't like there was actually a lot Kai knew how to do even if Shinji were to confess that hey, it's Not Okay. Apologies and platitudes only went so far. He couldn't take that experience away.

All he could really do, which he was going to do regardless, was more of This. Nodding slightly, Kai shifted a little. It was a fraction closer, a little easier to lift his (blissfully unbloody) hand to cradle the back of his head. He'd sort of wanted to go in for a hair ruffle, and that was too light-hearted, and going in to cup the side of his face was too intimate even for Kai in these waking hours. Settling right back here though was a kind of happy compromise.

If touch was something that actually brought comfort in this world and touch was all he had, might as well put it to work.

"Mm, Okay." He'd take it. "It's okay to not be okay though," Kai told him quietly in the dark. "If that's ever the case."
