The delicate part here, Kai hadn't quite realized yet, was that he'd never. You know. Actually confirmed or denied that he'd been in Shinji's dream before. It had been better, at the time, to kinda just leave it ambiguous because he didn't want Shinji to feel like he had to share explanations.
